“Form 990 is first reviewed and approved by the finance committee and then submitted to the full board for review and approval prior to filing.”
“The organization's code of conduct policy is incorporated into the organization's by-laws. All board members are provided with a copy of the by-laws. All new members are required to sign the conflict of interest statement upon joining the board. Annual updates are required by all board members which are used to monitor and enforce compliance. In addition, staff and the board take an active role throughout the year monitoring for potential conflicts of interest.”
“The president & ceo is evaluated by the board annually and compensation is determined using appropriate salary surveys and other information.”
“Victim assistance program strives to be financially transparent. Financial documents will be provided to individuals upon request and are also accessible via our agency website www.victimassistanceprogram.org or www.guidestar.org.”
“Since 1972, victim assistance empowers our community to restore lives impacted by crisis, violence, and tragedy. Our purpose is to provide crisis intervention, advocacy and education to victims of crime and trauma and to the professional community who serves this population.”
“Advocacy after addressing a victim's acute crisis in person or via hotline, advocates follow up with victims within 24 to 48 hours to check in, reassess safety, and offer additional services. Advocates offer to meet with victims at home, in a vap office, or any other location where the victim feels safe and comfortable. By providing follow up services to victims after an immediate crisis, advocates empower clients to establish a plan of action (also known as a case plan) to assist victims in addressing the impact trauma has, or may have, on their life or their families' lives which may include referring clients to agencies outside of our scope of service. If criminal charges are filed, advocates will walk alongside victims through all phases of the criminal justice process, from the initial arraignment hearing to case disposition.”
“Education to ensure victims are receiving comprehensive services, advocates undergo extensive training. An emphasis on education prepares advocates to be equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to utilize best practice techniques in order to serve victims to the fullest extent. Victim assistance program provides ongoing education to staff, volunteers, interns, and community professionals through our own summit victim assistance academy. The academy currently offers 1 in house course, the essentials, which is the only nationally approved, comprehensive online and in-person training of its kind offered in the state. This 44-hour hybrid training course promotes a standardization of services and fulfills the training requirements to become a comprehensive national credentialed advocate through the national organization for victim assistance.”

“The intended primary use of the endowment is for future operational needs. Primary uses for additional endowments are to provide a cash reserve for when grants/funding awards are delayed which negatively affects the agency's cash flow.”
“The preparation of financial statements in conformity with accounting principles generally accepted in the united states of america requires the agency to report information regarding its exposure to various tax positions taken by the agency. The agency has determined whether any tax positions have met the recognition threshold and have measured the agency's exposure to those tax positions. Management believes that the agency has adequately addressed all relevant tax positions and that there are no unrecorded tax liabilities. Federal and state tax authorities generally have the right to examine and audit the previous three years of tax returns filed. If incurred, the agency records tax related penalties and interest as management and general costs in the accompanying statements of activities and functional expenses. However, the agency incurred no tax related penalties or interest in 2018 or 2017.”
