ReasonableCauseExplanation/ExplanationTxt0Subject: 990 EZ late filing penalty abatement MDREF- EIN 38-3086750 Dear IRS Team I am writing on behalf of the Metropolitan Detroit Research and Education Foundation Board to request abatement of late filing penalty for fiscal year 2024 of Form 990 EZ. MDREF is a 501c 3 organization with a revenue of $46,224 in FY2024 hence we are submitting Form 990 EZ. Due to the unexpected departure of MDREF past executive director in 2024 MDREF was supported by a part-time pro bono interim executive director who became ill in April 2025 and was unable continue the administrative duties for the organization. Therefore the organization was unable to file on time or request an extension in May 2025. Subsequently the MDREF board has successfully recruited a new interim executive director who has now compiled a 990 EZ form and we are now submitting the 990 EZ form. The MDREF Board and executive director will be trained on the preparation of the 990 form and filing requirements and procedures to ensure timely e-filing of 990 form in future.
