Financial Statement Notes

Part X, Line 2:

Federal tax law provides tax benefits to nonprofit organizations recognized as exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (Code). The Code requires that tax-exempt organizations must comply with federal tax law to maintain tax-exempt status and avoid penalties. As an exempt organization as described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Code that has been classified as other than a private foundation, Relief After Violent Encounter, Inc. (dba SafeCenter) is only subject to tax on unrelated business income as defined by Section 509(a)(1) of the Code. Relief After Violent Encounter, Inc. (dba SafeCenter) has no unrelated business income for the year ended September 30, 2014. Accordingly, a provision for income taxes has not been made on the financial statements. The amount of income tax benefit that may be disallowed by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), if any, cannot be determined at this time although Relief After Violent Encounter, Inc. (dba SafeCenter) expects such amounts, if any, to be immaterial. Interest and/or penalties on an amount of income taxes deemed underpaid, if any, will be classified as income taxes in the financial statements. Relief After Violent Encounter, Inc. (dba SafeCenter) has not recognized any interest or penalties payable in the Statement of Financial Position as of September 30, 2014, or interest or penalties expense in the Statement of Activities for the year then ended. Relief After Violent Encounter, Inc. (dba SafeCenter) is subject to IRS and state examinations for a period of at least three (3) years after the Form 990 has been filed.

IRS990ScheduleD/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0Federal tax law provides tax benefits to nonprofit organizations recognized as exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (Code).

IRS990ScheduleI/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0The client's advocate completes a Request for Specific Assistance form for all assistance requests. These forms are reviewed by the Executive Director who will sign and date each request to indicate that it was reviewed, and indicated whether the claim was approved or denied. The request forms are then returned to the advocate. If the request was approved the advocate will arrange for the purchase of the assistance requested and forward the approved form to the Finance Director. The Finance Director makes arrangements for payment and confirms the payment with the advocate. A copy of the invoice/receipt is attached to the request. The advocate then arranges for delivery of the goods (if applicable).
