“A final draft of form 990 is presented to the audit committee once it is received from the organization's accounting firm. The committee then reviews the draft form 990 and recommends it to the full board for filing.”
“Employees are required to complete conflict of interest disclosure statements annually. Such statements are reviewed by management to identify any potential conflicts.”
“The board of directors is responsible for determining and approving the wages of the president and ceo of the organization. The compensation level is determined using guidance from the michigan federation of children and families' salaries and fringe benefit survey report. The board has the objective of setting the compensation level of the ceo in line with compensation levels at other similar organizations. All other employee compensation is set by the ceo, with indirect approval from the board of directors through the budget approval process.”
“All other employee compensation is set aby the ceo, with indirect approval from the board of directors through the budget approval process.”
“Audit, governing documents, and conflict of interest policy are all available on the organization's website at www.spaulding.org. Form 990 is available to the public on www.guidestar.org.”
“In partnership with families, communities, organizations, states, and the nation. Spaulding for children's mission is to assure that all children grow up in safe, permanent families and have the help they need to be successful in life.”
“Child and family services spaulding for children kept children from entering foster care by teaching and supporting 36 parents to safely care for them in their homes. We provided foster care services to 159 children, licensed 11 new foster homes, placed 58 children who were entering foster care. Child and family services supported and empowered 9 families to overcome their challenges and eliminated safety concerns so that their children could be safely reunited with them. We found permanent families for 28 children and youth who needed one; they are now thriving in the care of their adoptive families. As of september 30, 2019, we were placing youth in 40 different foster homes in hopes to build stronger families and communities. We also matched 12 children awaiting adoption with prospective families and renewed the agency's child placing agency.”
“The academy/spaulding institute the academy finished a five-year cooperative agreement which culminated with a three-day national meeting in washington d.c. To highlight all of the lessons learned. All eight sites that participated in the project were successfully able to implement an intervention into their permanency continuum and have an evaluation conducted. The minority professional development program graduated the first cohort of fellows. Fifteen fellows from across the country completed an 8-month long fellowship that included courses on transformational leadership, policy, practice and research as well as an action research project that identified a challenge in their local child welfare site. The national training and development curriculum for foster and adoptive parents worked to finalize a national curriculum for prospective foster and adoptive parents. Theatre testing of components of the curriculum was conducted during the year. Eight sites were selected and on-boarded so that they can pilot the curriculum starting in march 2020. We also utilized the hospital-based adoption services (h- bass) which helped ensure pregnant women who wished to place a child for adoption have access to well-trained staff and comprehensive support in the hospital setting throughout the process. The understanding infant adoption training curriculum helped build and develop the capacity of 3,699 individuals in approximately 1,850 hospitals in 31 states. Critical on-going resource family education (core-teen) serves as a state-of-the-art training program to equip resource parents to meet the needs of older youth who have moderate to severe emotional and behavioral challenges. The core-teen team trained caregivers in florida, tennessee, pennsylvania, the eastern band of cherokee, and north carolina. Throughout this process we trained over 3,000 hospital-based staff on adoption issues.”

“The endowments are used to support agency services and consumers including assisting in converting expenses in the adoption program providing scholarships to cover tuition, room and board, fees and associated costs to attend college for present and former children who are or have received services from spaulding for children.”
“Uncertainty in income taxes - the accounting standard on accounting for uncertainty in income taxes addresses the determination of whether tax benefits claimed or expected to be claimed on a tax return should be recorded in the financial statements. Under that guidance, the agency may recognize the tax benefit from an uncertain tax position only if it is more likely than not that the tax position will be sustained on examination by taxing authorities based upon the technical merits of the position. Examples of tax positions include the tax-exempt status of the agency and various positions related to the potential sources of unrelated business income (ubi). The tax benefits recognized in the financial statements from such a position are measured based upon the larges benefit that has a greater than 50% likelihood of being realized upon ultimate settlement. There were no unrecognized tax benefits identified or recorded liabilities for the year ended september 30, 2019.”

WE ALSO MATCHED 12 CHILDREN AWAITING ADOPTION WITH PROSPECTIVE FAMILIES AND RENEWED THE AGENCY'S CHILD PLACING AGENCY. |
