Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The mission of au sable is "inspiring and educating people to serve, protect and restore god's earth". Its faculty and staff provide expanded collegiate, field-based learning opportunities for students attending over 50 colleges and universities within the christian academy, and they mentor graduate students as they investigate the intersections of christian faith, environmental science, and praxis. A number of students are trained as environmental education interns, who in turn teach elementary school children about the wonders of god's creation in their communities.

To develop leaders to serve god's world through education, restoration, and witness. This is accomplished primarily through: offering college courses in environmental science; offering an environmental education program to local school children; offering a conference and retreat program; and performing outreach to community organizations, colleges, churches and the public.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The internal revenue service (irs) has determined the institute to be exempt from federal tax under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. In addition, the institute qualifies for the charitable contribution deduction under section 170(b)(1)(a) and has been classified as an organization that is not a private foundation under section 509(a)(2). Therefore, no provision for income taxes is made in the accompanying financial statements. The institute files information returns in the u.s. Federal jurisdiction. With few exceptions, the institute is no longer subject to u. S. Federal examinations by tax authorities for years before september 30, 2015. The institute has not had any business income unrelated to its exempt purpose and, therefore, has not filed income tax returns in any jurisdiction.
