Mission

The home builders association of western michigan exists so that members of the residential construction industry can ethically and efficiently provide our communities with safe, quality, and affordable housing. The vision of the organization is to advocate on behalf of members so they maximize their capability for success in the housing industry. The goals of the organization are to promote home ownership, be a recognized voice of the community, support economic growth and development of the community, and to promote the professionalism of members in the industry.

The home builders association of western michigan's mission is to support the members of the association and represent the residential construction industry in our territory (counties of kalamazoo, calhoun, van buren, branch, st. Joseph, barry and the eastern townships of allegan). We promote quality and professionalism in new construction and remodeling and connect the community with member businesses they can trust. Members must be appropriately licensed and insured and voluntarily subscribe to the associations strict code of ethics. We advocate on behalf of our members and homeowners by maximizing input in the regulatory environment and promote housing choices within our communities. As an association we believe safe, quality and affordable home ownership can and should be within the reach of every family in america. We execute our mission and demonstrate our belief though our home & garden expo, parade of homes, member directory access and workforce development projects that benefi

The home builders association of western michigan's mission key areas are to advocate on behalf of our members and homeowners by maximizing input in the regulatory environment; promote a variety of housing choices within our communities; maximize members' ease of access to information, resources, and referrals to improve their businesses; promote the industry and professionalism in residential construction to customer groups and the general public; and to assist in the accomplishment of the mutual objectives of the national association of home builders and the michigan home builders association. As an association we believe: safe, quality and affordable home ownership can and should be within the reach of every family in america; our communities should provide a variety of home styles, price ranges and amenities; that honesty is our guiding business policy and association members shall deal with their respective employees, sub- contractors, suppliers and customers with integrity and reliability; compliance with building codes and other regulatory agencies is an integral part of our business; hold inviolable the free enterprise system and the american way of life.

Member development and support is key to helping member companies perform better and build better and higher quality homes for the residents of western michigan. Educational offerings, including the required michigan 60-hour license prep course and other education important ensuring hba members are ahead of the curve on important safety and design and construction issues impacting homeowners. For example, ensuring remodelers know the importance of proper dust control and apparatus for breathing, knowing how to guide families when designing for loved ones to 'age in place', or the latest energy efficient, sustainable and green building practices. Beyond member education, the hba collaborates with other entities for attainable homes, and provides resources for licensing minority contractors in underserved neighborhoods of kalamazoo. We also provide opportunities for member-to-member mentoring, scholarships, workforce development services and more.
