“Manneqart is a growing 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and arts competition based in howard county that is focused on bringing wearable art to the public. Now in its third year, manneqart's mission is to "inspire creativity and reward excellence in the field of wearable art." we reach out to students and artists of all ages and skill levels from all over the country and invite them to think outside their comfort zones to create artworks unlike anything our community has seen in the past. Our 2015 goal is to bring 100+ unique and challenging artworks into the county from all over the u.s. Our 2015 schedule features the following exciting events:1) march 28 sculpture on the human form workshop for students and beginning artists2) june 21 manneqart madness--introducing the 2015 artworks to the public and photographing the artworks for artist portfolios and the 2016 calendar. 3) september 12-26 public display of artworks at various locations around the county4) september 27 gala and stage show at the horowitz center/howard comm college since manneqart was founded in 2013, it has become an exciting howard county arts event. Nearly 200 artworks have been presented to the community, including 100 shown at 15 county locations (including the mall in columbia) for two weeks in september, 2014. Last year's entries included artworks from 19 states made of all kinds of materials, from metals and paper, to spray foam and melted plastic bags. Artist awards totaling $10,000 were presented to artists in several categories. This year, manneqart has also entered into a partnership agreement with the howard county public schools system to train and involve students in creating 3-dimension, wearable art. A march 28 workshop will focus on teaching students how to work with materials, structure and colors to create artworks for the 2015 competition.”
