“Governing members are those who serve on the board of directors. Each member is entitled to one vote with respect to each matter submitted to a vote of the governing members. Associate member benefits include: free admission to peoria zoo for 1 year, discounts on classes and purchases, free or discounted admission to reciprocal facilities, and exclusive member events and admission times. Membership categories: individual: one individual and children under the age of 1. Individual plus: an individual membership and the opportunity to bring one guest per visit; member cardholder must be present for guest entry. Joint: two adults and children under the age of 1. Family: two adult cardholders and their children under the age of 18. Family plus: a family membership and the opportunity to bring one guest per visit; member cardholder must be present for guest entry. Grandparent: two grandparents and their grandchildren under the age of 18. Grandparent plus: a grandparent membership plus the opportunity to bring one guest per visit; member cardholder must be present for guest entry. Family & caregiver: a family membership and another named cardholder who regularly cares for your children and doesn't reside at your address. Family plus & caregiver: a family & caregiver membership and the opportunity to bring one guest per visit; member cardholder must be present for guest entry. Zoo booster: a family or grandparent membership and five one-time entry guest passes. Zoo benefactor: a zoo booster membership plus the opportunity to bring two guest per visit; member cardholder must be present for guest entry. Zoo patron: a zoo benefactor membership and a custom animal painting. Pride of the zoo: a zoo patron membership and a personal behind-the-scenes tour.”

“A copy of the form 990 is provided to the board of directors for review. The board of directors votes on filing approval.”

“Financials are monitored regularly by the finance committee and also presented to the board. When new board members are nominated, they go through a vetting process with the nominating committee. If a new board member is approved at committee level, their information is presented to the full board for approval. Board members will rectify conflicts and they abstain from acting on any matter for which a conflict exists.”

“Hiring decisions and compensation of the director is determined by finance and/or executive board. Officers of the board are not compensated. Other key employees report to the director and compensation is determined by the budget process.”

“Non-cash distributions the zoo periodically receives contributions in the form of publicly traded securities. When received, the stock is immediately converted to cash. Stock contribution amounts have historically been minimal amounts and are minimal for 2024. Because of immediate conversion to cash, any stock received in 2024 is reported as cash contributions.”
