“All third-grade school classes are invited to field trip to the museum home of mr. & mrs. Millikin built in 1876. The event is held over a two-week span. One school is permitted in the home at a time. There is a scripted program with characters dressed in period costumes. Children meet mr. Millikin, the piano tuner, the maid, the kitchen help, and finally mrs. Millikin. Children are encouraged to ask questions and given opportunity to work small art projects or do rubbings of coins and other artifacts on to tracing paper. The entire passage is through the rooms, listening to stories, questions, artwork, and a snack. We provide grant opportunities for teachers to obtain funds for the cost of busing. Last year we had 750 students come through the house.”
“Winter culture & poetry at the homestead gives opportunities for citizens to be exposed to the arts for a minimal entry fee of 10. Both poets and musicians partake in this winter sunday afternoon event. We had 63 attendees.”
“In addition to our holiday open house, we have a display of a variety of nativity sets for viewing. The 1875 home decorated for the holiday in a period appropriate traditional decorations. People came to view the 1890's decorations and nativity sets with cookies and punch. We had 56 attendees over a 2 day period.”

CHILDREN ARE ENCOURAGED TO ASK QUESTIONS AND GIVEN OPPORTUNITY TO WORK SMALL ART PROJECTS OR DO RUBBINGS OF COINS AND OTHER ARTIFACTS ON TO TRACING PAPER. THE ENTIRE PASSAGE IS THROUGH THE ROOMS, LISTENING TO STORIES, QUESTIONS, ARTWORK, AND A SNACK. WE PROVIDE GRANT OPPORTUNITIES FOR TEACHERS TO OBTAIN FUNDS FOR THE COST OF BUSING. LAST YEAR WE HAD 750 STUDENTS COME THROUGH THE HOUSE. |
