“Full mission statement: the mission of the uptown tenderloin, inc. Dba tenderloin museum (tlm) is to promote the history and character of the tenderloin neighborhood by offering educational, artistic, and charitable activities that support the neighborhood's current vibrancy, future potential, and enhanced economic development --------------------- program service accomplishment statement 1 the tenderloin museum celebrates the rich history of one of san francisco's most overlooked neighborhoods. Through history exhibitions, resident-led walking tours, community programs, and the presentation of original artwork, the tenderloin museum focuses on serving tenderloin residents, many of whom are lgbtqia+, bipoc, immigrants, low-income, disabled, and/or elderly. Tlm produces an average of 52 public programs a year that illuminates the tenderloin's fascinating history and involves its vibrant community in exploring and interpreting its roots at the intersection of art, history, and community. Tlm is a multi-faceted museum and repository of cultural memory that respects, welcomes, and cultivates diversity in all its forms. Tlm frequently features its neighbors as performers, visual artists, authors, or speakers. Tlm consistently fosters collaborative relationships that result in shared programming and enhanced outreach efforts. We have partnered with nearly every non-profit and arts organization in the neighborhood and have been embraced by the diverse community that we serve. --------------------- program service accomplishment statement 2 founded in 2015 and located within a robust network of activists, artists, social service workers, and low income residents, tlm is a multi-faceted cultural museum and repository of cultural memory that respects, welcomes, and cultivates diversity in all its forms. Core programs include: permanent tenderloin history exhibitions rotating gallery space for tenderloin-centric artists and works weekly public programming that explores the tenderloin through the intersection of art, history, and community. The reception of the tenderloin museum has been overwhelmingly positive. Each year, more than 5,000 people attend our weekly public programs, walking tours, and arts presentations, in addition to tlm's critically- acclaimed permanent history exhibition. Each year, tlm produces approximately 40-50 public programs, 5-7 special arts presentations, and 50 walking tours, alongside its permanent history exhibition. Examples include: --weekly guided neighborhood tours led by tenderloin residents, exploring architectural, activist, lgbtq+, immigrant, and nightlife histories. --performing arts programs such as when struggle gave improvisation the blues and tlm's acclaimed interactive play compton's cafeteria riot, the second iteration of which premiered in april 2025 and will run twice weekly for at least 6 months. --monthly talks, discussions, and film screenings spotlighting diverse community narratives, including the documentary "reach out and touch" about glide memorial church and the book talk kids on the street about support networks for queer and runaway youth. --visual arts exhibitions like eamon mcgivern's still lives, a trans portrait project and tim snyder's aunt charlie's angels, celebrating the rich tapestry of experience and resilience within the lgbtq+ community. --a "sounds of the tenderloin" series celebrating cultural history through live music that has framed 29 public programs since its inception in 2022. These initiatives engage 3,000-5,000 people annually, fostering collaborations across arts, humanities, and social sectors while amplifying the museum's impact. In the last two years, tlm has deeply engaged with the tenderloin community, including lgbtqia+, bipoc, immigrant, low-income, disabled, and elderly populations through programming tailored to reflect their diverse experiences.”
“Few working-class neighborhoods remain in san francisco. The tenderloin is home to some of san francisco's highest populations of low- and moderate- income people, lgbtqia+ individuals, and racial/ethnic minorities - more than 30% of the area's residents are foreign-born and the majority are non-white. Tlm brings the stories of these residents and their predecessors to life through exhibitions, performance, and events. Through our dynamic programming, we exalt communities that have long been put down and marginalized; benefit the lgbtqia+ and racially/ethnically diverse communities; and create discourse on themes surrounding urban studies, gentrification, marginalization, and lgbtqia+ history. We engage and partner directly with the communities of the tenderloin in planning, producing, and presenting these programs. In this way, we have earned the trust of our neighbors in representing their history and stories with the care and respect they deserve. We take it as a great honor to serve as an amplifier for the trials, tribulations, titillations, and truths of the tenderloin to san francisco and beyond. By providing a permanent and welcoming space for programs to occur we are a reliable and accessible destination for locals and visitors to discover the beauty of this neighborhood. Destigmatizing the tenderloin and its vibrant community is tlm's top priority. Our work ensures that tourists and residents learn about the deeper cultures and histories of the neighborhood and continue to be inspired to co-create lasting vibrancy in this neighborhood.”

| IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc | 0 | THE TENDERLOIN MUSEUM IS THE FIRST OF ITS KIND TO CELEBRATE THE REBELLIOUSNESS, DIVERSITY AND SPIRITS OF THE TENDERLOIN NEIGHBORHOOD WHICH HAS LONG BEEN AND CONTINUES TO BE-A SAFE SPACE FOR HISTORY'S OUTCASTS. POSITIONED AT THE INTERSECTION OF ART, HISTORY, AND COMMUNITY WE EXPLORE AND AMPLIFY THE UNTOLD STORIES OF A LONG-MARGINALIZED NEIGHBORHOOD. THE STRONG ENGAGEMENT OF THE TENDERLOIN COMMUNITY IS AT THE CORE OF TLM'S VISION AND PRACTICE. IN THIS WAY TLM IS UNIQUE. THERE IS SIMPLY NO OTHER ORGANIZATION IN SAN FRANCISCO WORKING WITH ART, CULTURE AND HISTORY CENTERED ON AND IN THE TENDERLOIN. |
| IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc | 0 | FEW WORKING-CLASS NEIGHBORHOODS REMAIN IN SAN FRANCISCO. OUR WORK ENSURES THAT TOURISTS AND RESIDENTS LEARN ABOUT THE DEEPER CULTURES AND HISTORIES OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND CONTINUE TO BE INSPIRED TO CO-CREATE LASTING VIBRANCY IN THIS NEIGHBORHOOD. |
