Mission and Program Overview
Mission
Just the beginning - a pipeline organization ("jtb-apo") is a multiracial, nonprofit organization comprised of lawyers, judges, educators, academicians, and other citizens. It is dedicated to developing and nurturing interest in the law among young persons from various socioeconomic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds underreprsented in the legal profession and supporting their continued advancement. Jtb-apo's long-term goal is to increase racial diversity in the legal profession and on the bench.

- Activity 2
- Career Development Programs: The Externship Program fosters racial diversity among law clerks within the federal and state judiciary. The program encourages and supports the advancement of eligible law students who desire stronger legal research, writing, and analytical skills, all of which are necessary to compete for and succeed in judicial clerkships.

- School Operations: The Schools Program is designed to encourage and prepare high school students of color to embark on legal careers.

We seek to strengthen the connection between those in the legal profession and those just entering our field (or those beginning to consider law as a career) through mentorship and advocacy. As we focus on increasing diversity in the law, we look to and honor those that came before us to integrate the judiciary, and we extend a hand back to those who are following in our footsteps to support their journey. Scholarships are awarded at the conference to deserving law school students to defray the cost of law school. |
