Rescufe & shelter for 120+ exotic birds from finches,parakeets, conures, parrots, cockatoos to macaws. (other species not mentioned) We rescued 131 birds in 2021 some found outside, humane society, abandoned in apartments and relinquished. We take care of the birds providing a safe, clean secure environment, medical vet care and meds, testing for all intakes, food pellets, seeds fresh fruits & veggies and providing social interaction. Birds coming into and within shelter are various ages and require medical care based on individual needs. We have caught early disease states within newly relinquished birds, We have changed diet to includes healthy foods reducing chronic disease conditions. We have improved their social well being by working with each bird and having flock socialization. We are meeting the standards of avian shelters.
GCCBS provides shelter care for 150 avian exotics non-native birds This includes parakeets finches lovebirds conures cockatiels parrots macaws cockatoos These birds are surrendered to us by families animal control police fire departments found outside Each bird receives infectious disease testing blood test base lines a clean cage toys a diet including fresh fruit veggies high quality seed and pellets and social interaction to meet their needs We currently have 150 birds within the shelter we are at capacity Wea adopt 75 to 90 birds a year and take in 80 to 100 birds surrenders For every bird taken in we are unable to accept 4 There are over one million birds in shelters across the US We follow the Avian Welfare Coalition guidelines for adoption Adoption of birds is rigorous than cat or dog adoptions
