IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING 31 MAY 2018 CLOSES OUT THE 2ND YEAR OF THE ZONTA INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION 2016-2018 BIENNIUM. THE EXPENSES FOR THE PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS SUPPORTED BY ZONTA INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION ARE RECOGNIZED IN THE FIRST YEAR OF THE BIENNIUM. ZONTA INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION FUNDS TWO PROJECTS THROUGH THE ZONTA INTERNATIONAL SERVICE FUND AND TWO PROJECTS THROUGH THE ZONTA INTERNATIONAL STRATEGIES TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN. INTERNATIONAL SERVICE PROJECTSSINCE 1923, ZONTA HAS PROVIDED MORE THAN US$19.2 MILLION TO PROJECTS BENEFITING WOMEN IN 35 COUNTRIES. IN THE 2016-2018 BIENNIUM, TWO PROJECTS WERE FUNDED THROUGH THE ZONTA INTERNATIONAL SERVICE FUND:TOWARDS ELIMINATION OF OBSTETRIC FISTULA AND REDUCTION OF MATERNAL AND NEWBORN MORTALITY IN LIBERIA WITH UNFPA AS A RESULT OF ZONTA'S CONTRIBUTIONS TO THIS PROJECT, MORE THAN 1,000 WOMEN AND ADOLESCENT GIRLS RECEIVED TREATMENT AND MORE THAN 200 FISTULA SURVIVORS COMPLETED THE REHABILITATION PROGRAM AND WERE SUCCESSFULLY REINTEGRATED INTO THEIR COMMUNITIES. (US$1 MILLION)LET US LEARN MADAGASCAR: AN INTEGRATED PROGRAM FOR ADOLESCENT GIRLS WITH UNICEF USA ABOUT 90 PERCENT OF MADAGASCAR'S POPULATION LIVES ON LESS THAN US$2 PER DAY, LEAVING CHILDREN PARTICULARLY VULNERABLE. UNICEF USA AND ZONTA WORKED TO CREATE OPPORTUNITIES FOR VULNERABLE AND EXCLUDED GIRLS TO REALIZE THEIR RIGHTS TO AN EDUCATION IN A SECURE AND PROTECTIVE ENVIRONMENT. PARTNERING WITH THE MINISTRY OF NATIONAL EDUCATION, THE PROJECT PROMOTED A COMMON VISION OF INVESTING IN JUNIOR SECONDARY EDUCATION FOR GIRLS AS AN ENTRY POINT FOR EQUITY. (US$1 MILLION)ZONTA INTERNATIONAL STRATEGIES TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMENSINCE THE PROGRAM'S INCEPTION, MORE THAN US$9.5 MILLION HAS BEEN PROVIDED TO SUPPORT PROJECTS IN 46 COUNTRIES. IN THE 2016-2018 BIENNIUM, TWO PROJECTS WERE FUNDED THROUGH THE ZONTA INTERNATIONAL STRATEGIES TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN FUND:RESPECTING THE RIGHTS AND RESPONDING TO THE NEEDS OF ADOLESCENT GIRLS IN NIGER WITH UNFPA ZONTA INTERNATIONAL PARTNERED WITH UNFPA TO REDUCE EARLY MARRIAGE AND EARLY PREGNANCY IN A CRITICAL MASS OF COMMUNITIES IN ALL REGIONS OF NIGER. FUNDING FROM ZONTA ENABLED THOUSANDS OF ADOLESCENT GIRLS TO BENEFIT FROM A WIDE ARRAY OF SERVICES AND SKILLS TRAINING PROGRAMS THAT EMPOWERED THEM TO SAY NO TO EARLY MARRIAGE. PARENTS, RELATIVES AND PEERS ALSO BENEFITED FROM KNOWLEDGE SHARED BY THE GIRLS, INCLUDING VALUABLE HEALTH AND HYGIENE INFORMATION. (US$1 MILLION) THE FUTURE WE WANT: CREATING SUSTAINABLE FOUNDATIONS FOR ADDRESSING HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND UNSAFE MIGRATION OF WOMEN AND GIRLS IN NEPAL WITH UN WOMEN IN THE AFTERMATH OF THE APRIL AND MAY 2015 EARTHQUAKES, NEPAL FACED A HEIGHTENED RISK OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND UNSAFE MIGRATION. DESPITE POLICIES, PLANS AND PROGRAMS IN PLACE TO COUNTER TRAFFICKING AND PROMOTE SAFE MIGRATION, THERE IS A LACK OF SYNERGY AT THE OPERATIONAL LEVEL. ZONTA INTERNATIONAL PARTNERED WITH UN WOMEN TO CREATE SUSTAINABLE FOUNDATIONS FOR ADDRESSING THE LINKS BETWEEN HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND FOREIGN LABOR MIGRATION OF WOMEN AND GIRLS IN NEPAL.
