Representatives of member companies are initially nominated by a fellow member for a board seat, either representing a chapter of local members or an at large position. This nomination triggers sbca staff to solicit information from the board nominee to be addressed by sbca's governance committee. That committee will determine whether it should hold an interview with the nominee. After reviewing the nominee's information and based on their performance during the interview the nomination is forwarded to the executive committee for awareness and review and ultimately forwarded to sbca's board of directors for election.

Governance issues are typically initially addressed by sbca's governance committee which is a collection of board members. Items/tasks are then forwarded to sbca's executive committee to ensure sbca's officers and at-large governors are aware of the items/tasks before being forwarded ultimately to sbca's board of directors for action.
