“None of the members of the board of directors are compensated therefore, the process includes only the executive director (ceo) and association staff. The process is the same for the ceo and association staff. The process is integral with the budget process, initially compensation is reviewed by the ceo and executive vice president. To insure that compensation is appropriate, a comparison to a survey taken by the association forum (a chicago based association of associations), specifically compared to associations of similar budget size, membership composition and geographic demographics. An attempt is made to approximate the median salary and median bonus at each position. Annual increases are pegged to the consumer price index. This percentage is applied to the survey results to provide the compensation budgeted for the following year. The schedule of proposed compensation is submitted to the finance committee, which reviews the proposed compensation along with interviews of the staff if warranted. The committee makes its recommendation to the board of directors as part of the adoption of the budget for the forthcoming year.”
