Additional Explanations

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

Youth development - the b.r. Ryall ymca is committed to nurturing the potential of every child and teen. We believe all kids have great potential and deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. That's why we help young people cultivate values, skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement. Our bright beginnings preschool provides a safe and enriched environment for toddlers through preschool aged children (2- 5). Once participants enter school, we provide before and after school care at our y facility as well as at 6 elementary school sites in cooperation with local school districts. In these programs as well as our summer camps, we offer experiences for learning, social growth and responsible behaviors in safe, nurturing environments. Our swimming and sports programs, from preschool through high school provide opportunities to cultivate fitness, fun, healthy competition, fair play, and social interaction. Last year, we nurtured over 1000 children in our care and provided sports and fitness experiences for over 1000 children. For those unable to afford participation, we monthly provided close to 75 individuals with over 58,256 in financial assistance. We provided another 13,868 to kids and families in financial assistance for memberships so that their y could always be available to them as hub for unstructured family time. In this year of covid, the y facility closed for one quarter of the year. As soon as things started to open back up, even though group size was restricted and school remote learning and hybrid models alternated, the y adapted their services to adhere to state guidelines and safely resumed providing childcare resources in a safe and caring way.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4B

Healthy living - the y is committed to improving america's health and well-being, community by community. We bring families together, encourage good health and foster connections through fitness, sports, fun and shared interests. This is especially important as our nation struggles with chronic disease and obesity, families wrestle with work/life balance and individuals search for personal fulfillment. Also, we pride ourselves on the fitness, fun and fellowship opportunities we offer our active older adult population. As members join, we provide them the opportunity for a free fitness consultation and orientation, so they can maximize their time at the y. Our offerings are plentiful and varied to fit our members' uniqueness and preferences ranging from unstructured family fitness time to family classes to group exercise and specialty classes, water fitness classes and personal training. Last year, while the y was fully open, we estimate that as many as 600 individuals of all age groups daily accessed our healthy living resources. We address chronic disease issues as a provider of the y-usa diabetes prevention program, an evidence based initiative, and specialized classes for individuals living with parkinson disease. We are aligning with local healthcare providers to target other health concerns in a planned expansion of our evidence-based programming in the future. In the midst of the pandemic and the restrictions that accompanied in person activities, the y took on a virtual presence for fitness classes and chronic disease support. We conducted almost 400 virtual classes, which resulted in over 8000 views of our you tube fitness classes and offered 350 hours of facebook live classes. When safety guidelines permitted, we held over 100 fitness classes in our parking lot and 98 in the gym, all while properly socially distancing. We continued supporting those with parkinson by conducting 24 on line pedaling classes and delivering bikes to a handful of participants who did not have access to them at home. Our dpp group participants continued to meet via zoom for support and information.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4C

Social responsibility - our ymca believes in giving back and supporting our neighbors. We have been listening and responding to our community's most critical social needs since 1919 when our y was founded to fill a void in our surrounding communities to develop mind, body, and spirit. As stated above, we provide 99,860 across membership and program financial assistance. Additionally, we manage our resources in such a way to sustain programs not supported by participation fees alone. Our childcare programs, preschool and school-age and camp programs award financial assistance to our greatest ability so that we can reach a wide range of needs. We also work with the state of illinois and encourage participants to seek state aid as appropriate. We make sure that our programs keep us eligible to receive state funding. We seek the financial support of the public to help us fund our financial assistance and to keep our fees as low as possible so that all can participate. When we can, we offer services at no charge in order to reach the maximum number of participants. We engage volunteers, this past year almost 400, a combination of policy and program volunteers who give of their time and talents to help b.r. Ryall ymca improve our community. One great example of this is our annual christmas tree sale. This is mostly run by volunteers for the sole purpose of raising funds to provide financial assistance for their fellow members and program participants who are unable to pay. Additionally, we have ongoing and periodic community outreach programs, involving our members and volunteers, that include our knitting club making a variety of items for other non- profits supporting those struggling with dread disease or homelessness and several food drives each year for humanitarian service organizations that care for vulnerable populations. As the pandemic first unfolded, the y sought partners to provide weekly meals to the neediest in our community, over the course of several months during the first surge and again for the holiday, provided almost 3000 meals to vulnerable families and seniors. When it is open normally, the y is a social gathering place for seniors. During the shutdown, y staff conducted 1650 wellness checks to see how our senior population were doing. Additionally, during the shutdown, the y facilitated two blood drives in our gym, to provide an acutely depleted resource for the community. Approximately 300 members who were receiving financial aid had their financial aid extended so that when they return to the y, they can resume their original benefit.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0HEALTHY LIVING - THE Y IS COMMITTED TO IMPROVING AMERICA'S HEALTH AND WELL-BEING, COMMUNITY BY COMMUNITY.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY - OUR YMCA BELIEVES IN GIVING BACK AND SUPPORTING OUR NEIGHBORS.
