Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Since 1899, association house has worked with chicagoans who seek tools to address immediate needs and long-term personal goals by offering effective, bilingual programs. As one of chicago's original settlement houses, we promote health and wellness and create opportunities for educational and economic advancement for all ages in a welcoming environment. With a staff of nearly 200 professionals, association house is a pillar in the greater humboldt park community and has served multiple generations of chicagoans in need.association house's programs serve predominately low income latino and african-american individuals and families across the chicagoland area. During the previous fiscal year, association house directly served approximately 8,000 individuals of all ages. Additionally, we impact the lives of approximately 17,000 community members each year through effective and culturally-competent direct-service programs.

We serve a multi-cultural community by providing comprehensive, collaborative and effective programs in english and spanish. We promote health and wellness and create opportunities for educational and economic advancement.

Financial Statement Notes

PART V, LINE 4:

Intended use of the endowment fund is to maintain an investment balance that keeps pace with the purchasing price of the dollar in order to supplement operation cash flows. The board approved a disbursement of $250,000 to be used in operations during the agency's fiscal year.

PART X, LINE 2:

The agency is a not-for-profit corporation as described in section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. The agency qualifies for the charitable contribution deduction under section 170(b)(1)(a) and has been classified as an organization that is not a private foundation under section 509(a)(1). The agency has determined that it is not required to record a liability related to uncertain tax positions as of june 30, 2014 or 2013. The federal and state returns of the agency for fiscal years ended june 30, 2011, 2012 and 2013 are subject to examination by the internal revenue service and state taxing authorities, generally for three years after filing.

PROGRAMMING INCLUDES VITAL ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT AND SUPPORT, HEALTH AND NUTRITION EDUCATION, LIFE SKILLS EDUCATION, ARTS EDUCATION AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT. YOUTH PARTICIPANTS COME FROM LOW-INCOME WORKING FAMILIES, MANY OF WHICH ARE SINGLE FEMALE-HEADED HOMES.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc3CITY COLLEGES OF CHICAGO - AT EL CUARTO ANO HIGH SCHOOL, THROUGH INITIAL INTERVIEWS, ALL STUDENTS EXPRESS THAT THEY HAVE LEFT TRADITIONAL NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOLS BECAUSE THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH SUPPORT SYSTEMS TO MEET NOT ONLY ACADEMIC NEEDS, BUT ASSISTANCE IN OVERCOMING SOCIO-EMOTIONAL AND BEHAVIORAL BARRIERS. WHEN IDENTIFYING CITY COLLEGES (TAOEP) STUDENTS, THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA IS USED: A) ATTENDANCE STUDENTS WHO HAVE LESS THAN 80% ATTENDANCE; B) "CUTTING" STUDENTS WHO REGULARLY CUT AT LEAST ONE PERIOD EVEN THOUGH THEIR ATTENDANCE MIGHT REFLECT MINIMUM STANDARDS; C) TARDINESS STUDENTS WHO DEMONSTRATE PATTERNS OF TARDINESS, AT TIMES MISSING MORE THAN ONE CLASS; D) ADDITIONAL REFERRALS BY TEACHERS, PARENTS, OR COUNSELORS OF BEING "AT-RISK" OF POOR ATTENDANCE DUE TO NEW OF ONGOING SOCIO-EMOTIONAL ISSUES IN THEIR LIVES. CITY COLLEGE OF CHICAGO FUNDS (TAOEP) ALLOWS THE SCHOOL TO ENHANCE INSTRUCTION AND TO ADDRESS AND MINIMIZE TRUANCY.
