Explanation of Functional Expense Allocation In preparing Form 990, the organization allocated the executive directors wages and depreciation expense to accurately reflect the distribution of resources across program services, management & general, and fundraising activities. Executive Directors Wage Allocation The executive directors salary of $68,265 was not originally apportioned in the books. To ensure proper functional expense classification, the wage was allocated based on the directors time spent across different functions: - Program Services (30%), -> $20,480 - Management & General (30%)-> $20,480 - Fundraising (40%) -> $27,305. Since the directors program-related activities supported two key programs, the program portion of wages ($20,480) was further allocated using the ratio of total wages assigned to each program. This approach ensures that salary expenses align proportionally with program operations.

Depreciation Allocation :Depreciation expenses related to assets primarily used for program activities were allocated using the total expense ratio of the three largest programs as measured by expense. Since the vehicle primarily supports program operations, depreciation was apportioned across programs based on their relative expense levels to ensure accurate functional expense reporting. This allocation method aligns with nonprofit accounting standards and ensures that Form 990 correctly represents how resources are utilized within the organization.

Pt XI

During the financial review, the organization identified a previously recorded transfer of $2,705 to a savings account that was never actually made. The original journal entry incorrectly reflected this transaction, leading to a discrepancy between the balance sheet and Form 990 reconciliation. To correct this, the organization made an adjusting journal entry to remove the phantom transfer and properly align net assets and cash balances. This adjustment does not alter total net assets but ensures financial statements accurately reflect actual fund movements. After this correction, Form 990 (Part X and Part XI) now align, with only a 1-cent difference due to rounding, which is immaterial to the financial statements.
