IRS990/Desc0SOCIAL BUSINESS AND PRODUCTIVITYGawad Kalinga (GK) created the Productivity Hub program that will ensure families getting out of poverty by enabling mechanisms that will trigger economic productivity towards sustained and transformative income streams. Funds for the two productivity hubs provided: (1) North Cotabato - land for adlai rice farming, feeding for 300 poor kids for 120 days, poultry production, reading and comprehension tutorials for 150 public grade schoolers, community food farms for 90 families and health programs on practical knowledge and tools for healthy lifestyles for 30 mothers (2) Camarines Norte - reading and comprehension tutorials for 300 public grade schoolers, scholarships in organic agriculture and agro entrepreneurship for 20 out of school senior high schoolers, enhancement of the bed and breakfast project and pineapple and taro production.GK's School for Experiential and Entrepreneurial Development (SEED) Inc. envisions raising the next generation of agri youth leaders who will end poverty for themselves, their families, communities and the country. There were 42 scholars enrolled in the 3-month program under the Leyte, Bulacan and Bacolod campuses. To enhance food security and increase income in rural communities, 21 Community Food Farms were established in Camarines Sur and Leyte.

Kusina ng Kalinga (KNK) or Care kitchen, a strategic response to hunger and malnutrition, serves thousands of nutritious vegetable-based meals prepared from community kitchens established through the collaborative efforts of parents, volunteers, local government units, schools, private individuals, organizations and corporate partners. The lunch meals are brought to the children in public schools, in communities, and in disaster and conflict areas. The kitchens in La Union, Pampanga, Mandaluyong, Bacolod, Davao and Sarangani served 114,000 meals.Reading is the foundation of learning. GK implemented a community-based learning program called Advancement in Reading and Learning (ARAL) for public school students ages 7-13 years old who receive intensive reading courses after school from trained teachers and volunteers. The package covers teacher allowances, learning materials, assessment, and meals. The Department of Education conduct assessment tests after the program. There were 1,300 students who entered the program. The schools which participated came from Lucena, Maguindanao del Sur, Davao City, Sultan Kudarat, Davao del Norte, Samar, Leyte, Bulacan, Pampanga, General Santos, Isabela and Cebu.To develop character, confidence, perseverance and teamwork in children and the youth in poor communities, GK established SIPAG, a community football program. There were more than 200 children and youths who participated in football tournaments in Metro Manila and Sultan Kudarat.

There is an immediate need to deliver relief and on the ground support to disaster areas when calamities strike. Gawad Kalinga provides for food, water, first aid kits, mats, personal hygienic needs and other basic necessities. GK USA provided relief packs for 5,918 families affected by monsoon rains in Davao del Norte, Typhoon Carina in Pampanga and Bulacan, Typhoon Kristine in Bicol, and Typhoon Pepito in Catanduanes.
