“Members pay an annual fee for their membership, which ranges based on class of membership (regular, associate, senior, lifetime). Members are allowed voting rights depending on class of membership. No members have the right to receive a share of the organization's net assets.”

“Each member belongs to a region. Each region (total 31) holds an election at least semiannually to elect officers of that regional chapter. Each region president is automatically a member of the board of directors along with the most recent past national president. The entire membership elects the 5 national officers once every 3 years. Ballots are mailed to every current member and tallied by an independent firm.”

“Decisions made by the governing body are subject to approval by members who possess voting rights.”

“The national office provides all necessary and applicable documents to an independent accounting firm. The accounting firm prepares the form 990. The form 990 is then reviewed by the office manager and national treasurer for approval.”

“Transactions involving potential conflicts of interest may proceed only if the conflict is fully disclosed, the interested party abstains from discussion and approval, and a fair valuation or competitive bid is obtained. Final approval rests with the board (or designated committee), which must determine that the transaction is fair and in the best interest of the organization. Conflicts must be reported to the ceo or board leadership, and the board has sole discretion in deciding whether such transactions serve the organization's welfare and mission.”
