Activity 2

Women's Enterprise (WE), a women's business center partially funded through the Small Business Administration, provides entrepreneurial assistance and advocacy to women and men entrepreneurs through business counseling and mentoring, technical assistance, networking, and business-oriented classes and workshops. Implemented in 1999, Women's Enterprise was the first Women's Business Center in the state of Indiana, and is dedicated to helping women achieve self-sufficiency through self employment. The program has been recognized locally, regionally, and nationally as a viable resource for business development. WE consistently strives to offer the best in business counseling (where experienced and qualified staff work one-on-one with clients); mentoring (where knowledgeable experts from throughout the Northeast Indiana business community are recruited to provide specific guidance and services to WE clients); and training (where clients are afforded the opportunity to hone much-needed skills in a variety of business areas - accounting, legal, insurance, taxes, record-keeping, procurement to name a few). As of 2011, WE has served more than 9,791 clients and assisted over 766 businesses to start or expand.

Activity 3

REACT (formerly The Rape Awareness Program (RAP)) began in 1981, and is the only multi-service program of its kind in northeast Indiana. The program includes a Rape Crisis Hotline providing services 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. Crisis Intervention Services provide emergency and brief intervention and on-going counseling to victims of sexual assault, childhood sexual abuse and domestic violence. REACT stresses prevention as well as treatment starting with radKids, a 10 hour comprehensive safety program for grade school students. Upon graduation, every radKID knows 3 things: no-one has the right to hurt me; I don't have the right to hurt anyone else; if someone hurts me, it's not my fault and I can tell. The sexual violence prevention program for middle and high school aged students, Assault Prevention for Teens (APT), educates young women and men about rape, and teaches techniques to avoid, recognize and react to dangerous situations. While other programs available address issues of self-respect, boundaries, power and healthy/unhealthy relationships APT is the only program that specifically addresses sexual assault prevention for teens, including the prevalence of sexual assault in the teen community, common myths about sexual assault, and Indiana sexual assault laws. Community Outreach is a growing component of REACT. Funding from VOCA and INCASA is allowing a part-time position to increase to full-time with a special focus on establishing an Engaging Men Task Force and Coaching Boys to Men, two educational efforts to involve men, coaches, and athletes in the fight to end violence against women through mentoring boys and modeling behavior. In 2011, more than 6,000 clients were served by REACT.
