“The organization, supported by trained volunteers, provided round-the-clock crisis intervention, suicide prevention, and information and referral to tippecanoe and the surrounding counties. We also provided rape advocacy support for tippecanoe county. In 2014, the agency received 6.577 calls, provided 142 instances of other support services, and conducted 53 presentations to campus and community groups. Four volunteer trainings were held resulting in 32 new phone volunteers. 8,193 referrals to community organizations were given. Eighteen non-english speaking callers were assisted with telephone interpretation services. We also held 16 support group meetings. If the organization were to provide phone coverage and rape survivor advocate services with paid staff rather than with volunteers, the cost for the 9,581 hours of direct services provided by trained volunteers in 2014 is estimated to be 206,566. This estimate is based on information obtained from independent sector, a leadership forum for charities, foundations, and corporate giving programs whose research indicates that for indiana the value of a volunteer hour (based on 2013 data) is estimated to be 21.56 per hour.
