The organization monitors the conflict of interest policy by requiring Board members to review the policy and provide written proof that they have read and adhere to the policy. All Board members are required to disclose any actual as well as potential conflicts of interest. Board members may not be present during discussion or voting of any matter where a conflict of interest exists. If a member fails to disclose a conflict or acts in violation of the policy, it will first be brought to their attention. Then, the Board will conduct hearings to determine if there was a violation and if so, disciplinary action will be taken.

Executive Director Compensation - First the Executive Committee reviews the performance and compensation considerations of the Executive Director. This information is brought to the entire Board for their review. In addition to the performance review, the Board considers tenure, all prior and current experience, and compensation data to like museums and organizations. The Board then votes on the annual compensation and benefits package for the Executive Director.

Financial Statement Notes

Schedule D, Part III, Line 4

Hillforest Historical Foundation holds its largest asset, the 1855 historic home built by the Gaff family and many of the original furniture pieces and artwork that belonged to the Gaff family of Aurora, Indiana. Decedents of the Gaff family and others have donated many of the historic pieces in the house over many years. The home is considered a museum and is open for tours and events held at the museum to educate the public on the history of the house and Gaff family who also had many businesses in Aurora Indiana. Hillforest Historic Mansion was placed on the National Historic Landmark Registry in 1992.

Schedule D, Part V, Line 4

Hillforest Historical Foundation has several Agency Endowment Funds held at the Dearborn Community Foundation. The intended purpose of the endowment funds is to provide support to Hillforest Historical Foundation to carry on its operations that support its mission and for exterior maintenance and grounds beatification for upkeep of the home.

Hillforest was able to hold several events in 2024 and in general saw an increased interest in individuals coming to the museum for tours throughout the entire year. Tours and events are the primary way used to educate the public on the history of the home which also creates interest by the general public.
