Financial Statement Notes

Part V, Line 4:

The endowment funds are to be used to provide funds for scholarships and training.

Part X, Line 2:

ELI is organized as a not-for-profit corporation under Section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code and similar state law. Accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America require management to evaluate tax positions taken by ELI that more likely than not would not be sustained upon examination by various federal and state taxing authorities. Management has analyzed the tax positions taken by ELI, and has concluded that as of December 31, 2015 and 2014, there are no uncertain positions taken or expected to be taken that would require recognition of a liability or disclosure in the accompanying financial statements. ELI is generally exempt from income taxes. However, ELI is required to file Federal Form 990 - Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax and a corresponding state return, which are informational returns only. ELI is subject to routine audits by taxing jurisdictions. However, as of the date the financial statements were available to be issued, there were no audits for any tax periods in progress.

Part XI, Line 2D - Other Adjustments:

Change in value of beneficial interest in assets held by others -20,795.

IRS990/MissionDesc0Early Learning Indiana is a provider of and an advocate for high-quality early learning education in Indiana. Established as Day Nursery more than 100 years ago, our roots in Indiana run deep. But over time, the scope of our work changed, and we changed our name to Early Learning Indiana in September 2014 to reflect that change. Over the past century, we built a reputation as Central Indiana's top non-profit provider of child care and education. In the next, we plan to lead the way in making high-quality early learning opportunities accessible and affordable for all Hoosier children. How will we do it? By providing excellent care and education at our Day Early Learning Centers. By providing referrals to parents, and training and other resources to child care providers throughout Indiana, and by being a leader, advocate, and partner in advancing policies that transform the early learning landscape in Indiana for the better.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0Partnerships for Early Learners and Child Care Answers: Partnerships for Early Learners (PEL) increases access and quality of early childhood programming across Indiana. With the generous support of the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration and the Lilly Endowment, PEL aims to ensure that 75% of Indiana's children in child care or preschool are connected with a high-quality program and that their families are engaged and supported. As a part of this effort, Child Care Answers (CCA) is contracted to serve as one of nine child care resource and referral agencies in Indiana. CCA works with families, early-childhood educators and the community at large to address many types of early childhood issues.
