The mission of ilbsa is to offer its dealer and associate members the opportunity to best utilize the value of a statewide association to improve and enhance the profitability and image of the independent retail building material industry. The organization seeks to accomplish this through continuing education, timely and valuable dissemination of information, effective communications, legislative influence, and opportunities for camaraderie and idea-sharing.

The organization seeks to encourage through all available legal means, the improvement of member's financial, merchandising and personnel management capabilities. To represent, inform and assist its membership in legislative and regulatory action at both state and federal levels.

The organization contracts with raybourn group international, an independent contractor, to manage the business and affairs of the organization.

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 6

There are five classes of members; full; employee member; honorary; life; and associate. A full member shall be any corporation, firm or individual located within the territory of this organization which is regularly engaged in the retail lumber and/or building materials and/or builders' supply business, generally carrying at all times an assorted inventory of representative building materials and/or builders' supplies commensurate with the requirements of its trading area, for the purpose of selling same at retail in large or small quantities, and not primarily for its own consumption, and is open for business during generally accepted business hours with competent personnel available at all times to attend to the needs and desires of the general public. An employee member shall be any person serving in any capacity as a full-time employee of a member. An honorary member shall be an individual elected to that position by a majority vote of the board of directors. A life member shall be an individual who has been a member of this association for at least ten years, who is retired from active participation in the retail lumber and builders' supply business, and who has been elected to this classification by a majority vote of the board of directors. And an associate member shall be any corporation, firm, or individual who manufactures and/or sells and/or provides materials or services used, resold or dealt in by the members of this association in the regular conduct of their business. Such corporations, firms, or individuals as described above who also qualify as full members must hold such active membership in the association in order to be eligible for associate membership. Such corporation, firms, or individuals as are elected to associate membership shall pay such annual dues as may be established by the board of directors and shall thereupon become eligible to participate in such organization-sponsored activities as determined by the said directors.
