The organization further fulfills its mission by partnering with other groups for financial assistance and volunteer support. These groups include the city of akron, county of summit, foundations, banks and other businesses, church groups, student groups, families and individuals. Financial assistance is primarily received in the form of grants, cash and donated properties. Volunteers often perform the front end work that is the first step in stabilizing neighborhoods by preventing further deterioration and immediately improving exteriors of these properties. The organization is an active part of the community in additional ways. The university of akron, knights of columbus, the united way of summit county, local churches and schools, and many others look to this organization for meaningful volunteer opportunities. The efforts of the organization are offered in a manner that supports and encourages self-respect, dignity and self-sufficiency. Our vision is that by replacing blighted and inadequate housing with safe, well-designed homes, we plant the seeds of rebirth and revitalization in our local neighborhoods, impacting the entire county.”
“Volunteer services include: 1. Demolition/construction/home improvement from unskilled student volunteers, church groups and individuals. The work these volunteers donate saves construction costs, extends our resources and improves the appearance of the vacant and abandoned properties nazareth rehabilitates. In turn, nazareth provides a meaningful, hands-on activity for volunteers who often learn new skills in the process. The organization has utilitzed the vista program and plans to do so again. 2. Donated skilled labor and materials: nazareth works with local, certified and reputable general contractors to thoroughly rehabilitate houses or to abate hazardous lead paint. Nazareth's contractors submit fair bids and often donate additional labor and construction materials. 3. Other goods: nazareth works with local companies such as rg digital who provide web hosting services at a greatly discounted rate and other non- profits, for instance eandc, mustard seed dev. Corp and the financial empowerment center, which provide budget and credit counseling to our clients. Techsoup, a national non-profit, provides discounts on hardware and software that keep the organization technologically savvy. The catholic diocese provides deeply discounted and community friendly office space in one of our preferred neighborhoolds. Professional services: real estate agents and brokers routinely grant a discount in their fees, in honor of serving our mission. Nazareth's board of directors go above and beyond the norm in donating highly skilled professional work such as legal, accounting, project management and surveying services. 4. Office help: the capacity of nazareth's limited staff is augmented by community volunteers and collaborations with other local non-profits who provide nazareth with willing and capable volunteers to help with general office duties that assist in our day-to-day activities. In turn, nazareth provides a place for these volunteers to practice new skills.”
“The preparation of financial statements in conformity with accounting principles generally accepted in the united states of america requires the organization to report information regarding its exposure to various tax positions taken by the organization. The organization has determined whether any tax positions have met the recognition threshold and have measured the organization's exposure to those tax positions. Management believes that the organization has adequately addressed all relevant tax positions and that there are no unrecorded tax liabilities. Federal and state tax authorities generally have the right to examine and audit the previous three years of tax returns filed. Any interest or penalties assessed to the organization, of which there were none in 2024 and 2023, are recorded as management and general expense in the accompanying statements of activities and changes in net assets and functional expenses.”
