Mission

Enhance the quality of life for residents of ward 5 (of cleveland, ohio) by creating a model community comprised of new and improved housing. The organization will initiate and cultivate housing, recreation, retail and employment opportunities through effective partnerships with residents, community groups, government, corporations and institutions.

Bbc's mission is to empower citizens, and revitalize blighted and underserved communities. Organizational staff statement bbc is comprised of a dynamic staff of thirteen highly committed and capable community development practitioners led since 2000 by its executive director, timothy l. Tramble. Eight staff members serve in a full-time capacity, six of which have earned a master's degree in public administration, planning and development, architecture, or social work. Full-time staff members have been with the organization for an average of over six years and have been working in the community development field for more than seven years. Enterprise rose architectural fellow erick rodriguez has been working with bbc and detroit shoreway community development organization since january 2014. Each year over 250 people volunteer for bbc through programs and services ranging from americorp vista, tree plantings and other greening efforts, the ward 5 family festival, door knocking for various community engagement initiatives, and more. Organizational history as we have walked, driven, and biked our neighborhoods, our ambition to foster their full recovery has led us to layer traditional means and methods of community development with new measures and tactics. When bbc was established, our neighborhoods were undoubtedly the most blighted neighborhoods of cleveland. While there has been an abundance of improvements that have ushered new neighborhood identities, we are as driven as ever to create greater impact. Burten, bell, carr development, inc. (bbc) was created as a non-profit community development corporation (cdc) in 1990 to perform neighborhood planning and community revitalization activities in ward 5 of the city of cleveland. During our first fifteen years of existence, the organization primarily focused its efforts on neighborhood planning and restoring the residential fabric of the community by facilitating a variety of housing projects and supportive services in the central community. We have since evolved into a full service community development corporation serving the central and lower kinsman neighborhoods. Indicators, such as low foreclosure rates, purposeful re-use of large tracts of desolate land and the successful lease-up of retail spaces within once infamous crime-infested areas, demonstrates our effectiveness at charting the path of neighborhood recovery within the most challenged neighborhoods of cleveland. With such proven success we are poised to cultivate a new thriving neighborhood.

In the last seven years bbc has significantly expanded its programming, initiating three social enterprises, successfully chartering the massive land assembly of the green city growers hydroponic greenhouse site and spearheading the urban agriculture innovation zone. Yet, we have also managed to develop and co-develop over 300 units of housing and built-out 4,183 square feet of retail space. We currently have 207 units of housing under development in addition to homes within the cmha-led central choice neighborhood plan. We seek to produce scalable change that extends beyond physical development. Collaborating with stakeholders, we aim to cast a wider web of physical and human development to build strong neighborhoods. We recognize strong neighborhoods cannot exist without healthy people within them. They cannot exist without exporting goods and services. Strong neighborhoods cannot exist without actively engaged and educated citizens, and strong neighborhoods cannot exist without assets of attraction. It is this realization that drove us to directly address health and wellness and gave us our entrepreneurial spirit. It is also why we now serve a formal role to our neighborhood schools and as a convener and conduit for wraparound services.

Arbor park place holding, llc- bbc is the sole member of this llc which is consolidated in these financial statements. It was formed to acquire, redevelop and manage arbor park place neighborhood retail center. With a diverse set of tenants in 7 units totaling 38,858 square feet of leasable space, arbor park place is an essential amenity to the central neighborhood and its residents. Maintaining the health of the center and the services it provides is necessary for the vitality of the central community. Therefore, in 2017 bbc facilitated the restructuring of the debt on the center, invested 265,000 into needed capital improvements and took on direct property management responsibilities.

Bbc complies with fasb asc 740- accounting for uncertainty in income taxes. Fasb asc 740 details how companies should recognize, measure, present and disclose uncertain tax positions that have been or expected to be taken. As such, the financial statements would reflect expected future tax consequences of uncertain tax positions presuming the taxing authorities' full knowledge of the position and all relevant facts, if they existed. The management of bbc believes that there are no uncertain tax positions. The organization's tax years that remain subject to examination by the internal revenue service are june 30, 2016 and forward.
