Enhance the quality of life for residents of ward 5 (of cleveland, ohio) by creating a model community comprised of new and improved housing. The organization will initiate and cultivate housing, recreation, retail and employment opportunities through effective partnerships with residents, community groups, government, corporations and institutions.
Bbc's mission is to empower citizens, and revitalize blighted and underserved communities. Organizational staff statement bbc is comprised of a dynamic staff of thirteen highly committed and capable community development practitioners led since 2000 by its executive director, timothy l. Tramble. Eight staff members serve in a full-time capacity, six of which have earned a master's degree in public administration, planning and development, architecture, or social work. Full-time staff members have been with the organization for an average of over six years and have been working in the community development field for more than seven years. Enterprise rose architectural fellow erick rodriguez has been working with bbc and detroit shoreway community development organization since january 2014. Organizational history as we have walked, driven, and biked our neighborhoods, our ambition to foster their full recovery has led us to layer traditional means and methods of community development with new measures and tactics. When bbc was established, our neighborhoods were undoubtedly the most blighted neighborhoods of cleveland. While there has been an abundance of improvements that have ushered new neighborhood identities, we are as driven as ever to create greater impact. Burten, bell, carr development, inc. (bbc) was created as a non-profit community development corporation (cdc) in 1990 to perform neighborhood planning and community revitalization activities in ward 5 of the city of cleveland. During our first fifteen years of existence, the organization primarily focused its efforts on neighborhood planning and restoring the residential fabric of the community by facilitating a variety of housing projects and supportive services in the central community. We have since evolved into a full service community development corporation serving the central and lower kinsman neighborhoods. Indicators, such as low foreclosure rates, purposeful re-use of large tracts of desolate land and the successful lease-up of retail spaces within once infamous crime-infested areas, demonstrates our effectiveness at charting the path of neighborhood recovery within the most challenged neighborhoods of cleveland. With such proven success we are poised to cultivate a new thriving neighborhood.”

It was formed to acquire, redevelop and manage arbor park place neighborhood retail center. With a diverse set of tenants in 7 units totaling 38,858 square feet of leasable space, arbor park place is an essential amenity to the central neighborhood and its residents. Maintaining the health of the center and the services it provides is necessary for the vitality of the central community. Therefore, in 2017 bbc facilitated the restructuring of the debt on the center, invested 265,000 into needed capital improvements and took on direct property management responsibilities.”
