Mission

Firelands Association for the Visual Arts (FAVA) is a community inspired, enriched, and engaged through lifelong experiences with arts. FAVA's mission is to foster creativity and community by exhibiting contemporary visual art, educating people of all ages, and strengthening cultural awareness throughout the community.

Founded in 1979, firelands association for the visual arts (fava) (continued on schedule o) is dedicated to promoting and presenting visual arts.

The form 990 is being prepared by an independent service provider and is reviewed in detail by the treasurer. The finance committee conducts a review and approval of the final version which is presented to the board prior to filing.

Fava annually provides a copy of the conflict of interest policy to all board members to review, update, and sign off. Board members have the opportunity to recuse themselves during board and committee meetings and discussions that may be a conflict of interest.

The executive committee meets annually during the budget process to discuss annual compensation of the executive director. This includes comparing the compensation package with other regional and other arts organizations from information available on publicly posted form 990s. Form 990, Part III, Line 1

For over 40 years, fava has had a commitment to regional contemporary art and is one of the most unique small gallery spaces in ohio. Fava offers exhibition opportunities for both emerging and established artists in a wide variety of media. We serve as a community resource for individuals and organizations seeking assistance with exhibitions of all types. Fava's education program seeks to inspire, enrich, and engage through lifelong experiences in the visual arts. Fava's educational programs attract families seeking art experiences and instruction to supplement the offerings in area schools. Children laugh, play, socialize, and make great art projects that they proudly display for family and friends. Youth classes include clay, cartooning, photography, creative writing, summer camps, and more. Students who engage in fava's education program have the opportunity to learn from highly skilled professional artists as well as each other. Adults learn jewelry metal working, figure drawing, painting, ceramics, and more. Our adult classes provide the opportunity for beginners as well as advanced students to build skill in a variety of mediums while creating lasting friendships and engaging in high quality art experiences. Fava attracts approximately 3,500 people annually to its exhibitions, events, and educational programs.

Endowment funds: since 1995, fava has maintained an endowed fund held at the community foundation of lorain county (cflc) who has variance power over the fund. Income is calculated annually based on the policies of cflc. Fava uses the income distributed and received as operating support.
