FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

The mission of scr is to enhance continued independence and promote the quality of life for the senior population in the old brooklyn neighborhood of cleveland, as well as the surrounding communities. The old brooklyn neighborhood has the highest concentration of seniors per capita in cuyahoga county. Approximately 2/3rds of the seniors are low income, and the majority live alone. Scr's programs: congregate meal, home delivered meal, activities, transportation, social services, and volunteerism all work towards the mission of enhancing independence and the ability of the senior to continue managing on their own.

Form 990, Page 1, Part I, Line 6

The organization has a strong corps of approximately 150 volunteers. The majority (70) are involved with home delivered meals. They pack the meals, drive and deliver the meals to each home. The other volunteers help out at the center with the congregate meal program, prepare the newsletter for mailing, participate in advisory groups and help out with special events. These dedicated volunteers allow the agency to run efficiently while keeping costs down.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4D

Activities: scr provides a wide array of activities for the seniors, both at the center and in the neighborhood. An exercise program is sponsored at the local recreation center, attended by a committed group of seniors. It is also led by a senior. Other activities at the center include trivia contests, bingo, chair volleyball, yoga, seated bowling, ping pong, crafts, crocheting, sewing, art projects, as well as intergenerational activities in partnership with a local grade school. The activities are selected to attract and interest both frail and more independent seniors, strengthening mind and body. Social services: scr has a small department handling the various issues that seniors encounter as they attempt to get through the myriad of bureaucracy with medicaid, food stamps, assistance programs, etc. In addition, our services include a home visit to all participants in the home delivered meal program, ensuring they fit the criteria but also connecting the seniors with other services that may be needed. Our social services department coordinates over 12 speakers throughout the year addressing the topics that are of importance to seniors. Examples include: nutrition, medicaid/medicare/ chronic disease management, recognizing scams, preventing fraud and money management a in addition, scr sponsors 2 health fairs a year, monthly blood pressure screenings, as well as cholesterol and glucose testing. Volunteerism: scr coordinates many volunteer opportunities for seniors, including the meals on wheels delivery network, but also the many other volunteer needs of the organization. This includes assisting with the food set up, activities, mailings, the front desk, special events, and making and selling crafts at the "granny store". Our volunteers number approximately 150 persons, including a group that provides volunteer services at metrohealth on behalf of scr. Volunteerism is an important aspect in keeping seniors active and engaged in life. Most of our volunteers are over 60, and maintain their purpose and vitality through volunteerism.

Financial Statement Notes

Schedule D, Page 3, Part X

Scr complies with fasb asc 740 - accounting for uncertainty in income taxes. Fasb asc details how companies should recognize, measure, present and disclose uncertain tax positions that have been or are expected to be taken. As such, the financial statements would reflect expected future tax consequences of uncertain tax positions presuming the taxing authorities' full knowledge of the position and all relevant facts, if they existed. Management believes there are no uncertain tax positions. The organization's tax years that remain subject to examination by the internal revenue service are 2014 and forward.

OVER 106 MEALS ARE DELIVERED DAILY BY SCR. OVER 26,000 MEALS ARE DELIVERED IN THE YEAR.
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/ExpenseAmt065547

IRS990ScheduleD/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0SCR COMPLIES WITH FASB ASC 740 - ACCOUNTING FOR UNCERTAINTY IN INCOME TAXES.
