PART III, LINE 4 - EFFECTS OF PANDEMIC ON COLLEGE OPERATIONS:

When the magnitude of the covid-19 pandemic came to light in march 2020, ursuline college faced a once-in-a-lifetime challenge. Instructors had to quickly pivot to online instruction and the campus was closed for approximately three months, re-opening in late june 2020. At the beginning of fall semester 2020, students and faculty returned to campus and to a new reality, with mask and social distancing requirements; de-densified classes, meeting rooms, and residence halls; new rules regarding testing, quarantine, and isolation; and many more changes to their daily lives all intended to minimize spread of the virus. Below is a partial list of the ways the college adjusted, for the safety of students. These efforts required countless extra hours on the part of employees (both faculty and staff) who had to create new systems for processes ranging from business office functions to instruction and academic assessment. College-wide: - covid task force formed to review ever-changing information from center for disease control and prevention (cdc), ohio department of health, cuyahoga county board of health (ccbh); task force continues to guide decision making and internal and external messaging; - monitored, applied for, and reported on federal covid-related grants including a ppp loan (which has been forgiven, owing to good stewardship) and heerf funds; - developed and continue to maintain a covid protocol web page at www.ursuline.edu/covid; - developed and continue to maintain a covid dashboard web page https://www.ursuline.edu/inside-ursuline/consumer-information/covid-test ing-data; - continue to draft and disseminate (via email, web site, intranet and social media) updates to internal and external audiences; - generated and posted signs across campus regarding coivd protocols & 6-foot distancing requirements; - hosted an award ceremony for a national speaker via videoconference after cancelling in-person event; - college received clea waiver to be able to have a covid testing site on campus; hired nurse practitioners to run and staff; - initiated weekly covid testing for all unvaccinated faculty, staff, students; - ccbh and cleveland clinic both reviewed college's covid protocols; ccbh walked through of de-densified spaces, food court, dining hall to give feedback and approval; - ppe was purchased and placed in all classrooms, lounges, community spaces; - acrylic shields were affixed to desks of administrative assistants, receptionists, student services center workers, faculty who requested them; - furniture removed to de-densify occupancy of classrooms, lounges, community spaces; - additional housekeeping hired to wipe down doorknobs, railings, elevator buttons, clean bathrooms more frequently; - metz food service: eliminated self-serve and re-usable take-out containers, shields installed on all counters; grab-and-go items were pre-packaged (fruit, cookies, etc.); - bookstore created process for no-contact purchases and curbside pickup; - in 2020, hosted a "drive-by goodbye" procession of graduating students driving past faculty and staff with signs, balloons, and cheers; also hosted an online commencement ceremony with speakers and slideshow of graduating students; - moved commencement 2021 to an outdoor venue to allow for bubble seating, social distancing, and fresh air; masking required; - covidhelp team mobilized to provide education, information to students, quarantine and isolate students who were positive or had symptoms, and notify faculty; - provided hybrid class spaces for faculty and students in quarantine and isolation; - hired a covid intern, a social work major who assisted with surveillance testing; - compliance offerings online for all students; and - title ix, harassment, discrimination proceeded as normal through use of zoom. For students: - residence halls were de-densified, with all resident students (with minor exceptions for siblings) placed in single rooms at the double-room rate; - residence life staff cre

Financial Statement Notes

PART V, LINE 4:

Intended use of endowment funds - distributions from endowment funds are spent in accordance with the donor's restrictions applicable to funds being distributed. Annual distributions from endowment funds are calculated using the average market value of investable assets of the past three years in the permanently restricted fund. For the year ended june 30, 2021, the college utilized a spending rate of 5% as set and approved by the board of trustees. Expenditures are used to further the educational purposes of the college.

PART X, LINE 2:

Fin 48 (asc 740) footnote - the college is a non-profit organization that is tax exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. Gaap requires management to evaluate tax positions taken or expected to be taken for possible recognition and measurement in the financial statements based upon prescribed criteria. Management has analyzed the tax positions taken by the college and has concluded that, as of june 30, 2021, there are no uncertain tax positions taken or expected to be taken that would require such recognition or disclosure in the financial statements. The college's informational and tax returns are subject to examination by the irs generally for three years after they are filed.

PART XI, LINE 4B - OTHER ADJUSTMENTS:

PART XII, LINE 4B - OTHER ADJUSTMENTS:
