“First accomplishment scholarships jlcs scholarship program provides support for non-traditional woman students seeking the opportunity to gain further education and/or career training. This year, the jlc granted 4 scholarships to recipients with realistic and achievable career goals as well as a history of volunteerism. They also donated a computer to a fifth recipient. All recipients have overcome adversity. The jlc works with various community partners including community colleges, technical schools, and community agencies to advertise the program and to identify appropriate candidates. All applicants must complete the required application, personal essay, and obtain at least one letter of recommendation to be considered. Applicants are awarded following a formal selection review process by the leagues scholarship committee. Scholarship funds are sent directly to the institution of the recipients choice. All recipients must attend an accredited program which is verified through the admissions or financial aid offices. The scholarship process and application are evaluated on a yearly basis by the committee, and all changes are discussed with our community partners. A community facilitator non-jlc member is used to assist with the decision-making process on selection night, after all applications have been carefully reviewed by the committee. Since the inception of the program in 2005, 68 women have received financial assistance to facilitate educational advancement and achievement of career goals.”
“All other accomplishments the jlc provides training and educational instruction to members on a monthly basis. All members are required to attend at least one session per year. Other programs promote volunteerism and improve the community through action and leadership of trained volunteers. The jlc reaches out to women of all races, religions, and national origins who demonstrate an interest in volunteerism.”
“The internal revenue service has issued a determination in exempting the jlc from federal income taxes under section 501c3 of the internal revenue code. This determination letter was issued based on information supplied by the jlc under the assumption that the operations of the jlc will be as stated in its application for exemption. Accordingly, no provision for income taxes is included in these statements. Accounting principles generally accepted in the united states of america require organization management to evaluate tax positions taken by the organization and recognize a tax liability if the organization has taken an uncertain position that more likely than not would not be sustained upon examination by the internal revenue service. Management has determined that the organization does not have any uncertain tax positions and the associated unrecognized benefits that materially impact the financial statements or related disclosures. The jlc is subject to routine audits by taxing jurisdictions however, there are currently no audits for any tax periods in progress. The organization believes it is no longer subject to income tax examinations for years prior to fiscal 2022.”

ALL APPLICANTS MUST COMPLETE THE REQUIRED APPLICATION, PERSONAL ESSAY, AND OBTAIN AT LEAST ONE LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION TO BE CONSIDERED. APPLICANTS ARE AWARDED FOLLOWING A FORMAL SELECTION REVIEW PROCESS BY THE LEAGUES SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE. SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS ARE SENT DIRECTLY TO THE INSTITUTION OF THE RECIPIENTS CHOICE. ALL RECIPIENTS MUST ATTEND AN ACCREDITED PROGRAM WHICH IS VERIFIED THROUGH THE ADMISSIONS OR FINANCIAL AID OFFICES. THE SCHOLARSHIP PROCESS AND APPLICATION ARE EVALUATED ON A YEARLY BASIS BY THE COMMITTEE, AND ALL CHANGES ARE DISCUSSED WITH OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS. SINCE THE INCEPTION OF THE PROGRAM IN 2005, 68 WOMEN HAVE RECEIVED FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO FACILITATE EDUCATIONAL ADVANCEMENT AND ACHIEVEMENT OF CAREER GOALS. |
