“Recovery network- emergency supplies & equipment: at the inception of mountain strong, the primary goals were to quickly purchase and distribute needed supplies and equipment to the residents and volunteer in yancey and mitchell counties in the immediate aftermath of hurricane helene. Emergency supplies included food, water, and general household supplies. This includes, but is not limited to, canned goods, baby formula, diapers, paper towels, trash bags, and cleaning supplies. Initial purchases and distributions were delivered to local donation centers, fire departments, and directly to those in need including clothing, boots, and gloves. Medical supplies, equipment, and medication, were purchased for the field hospital that was set up by volunteer nurses and physicians at the burnsville fire department. Additionally, emergency supplies and equipment, including generators, heaters, chainsaws, jackerys, gas propane, fuel, and starlink wifi systems to provide means of communication were purchased and distributed to residents impacted by hurricane helene and to volunteers assisting with recovery efforts.”
“Mountain strong holiday program the mountain strong holiday program was initiated to provide meals and gifts to those families in need, who otherwise may not have a place to congregate with family, and may not be able to afford christmas gifts for thier children. For both thanksgiving and christmas, mountain strong sponsored free meals including the food, supplies, and equipment necessary to serve the meals. Also included are tent rentals, kids craft tables, and gifts, inluding toys and gift cards. Gifts were purchased for several families with 3-5 children in each family. Additionally, mountain strong purchased gift cards from local businesses which were donated to a toy drive and toy distribution event at a local resturant where mountain strong team members volunteered.”
