IRS990/Desc0Last year, Peace4Kids served 234 unduplicated youth in its Core Saturday Program. The program was held 41 times over the course of the year. Our goal as an organization is to provide a deeper level of service to those whom we serve. In the last year, our staff and volunteer base has been structured to provide more outreach to foster families and caregivers. This has helped Peace4Kids accomplish a long-term outcome of ensuring longer-lasting and more-solid placements. MOBILE VILLAGE KITCHEN After two years of planning, Peace4Kids launched the Mobile Village Kitchen (MVK) in November 2015 as part of our community-wide Thanks4Giving Celebration. Over 250 youth, family members, volunteers and community members attended this event, where the youth-led and conceived project was revealed and launched. The Mobile Village Kitchen is a fully-functioning training kitchen, with the highest quality fixtures and materials. This custom-built trailer has fold-out walls that convert it into open program space, enabling Peace4Kids to rotate youth through the MVK for various classes and activities relating to food and nutrition. Over 200 youth now rotate through the MVK through cooking and nutrition classes, while all youth will interact with the MVK lunch service on a weekly basis, which is often the most robust and nutritious meal they receive all week. A core team of 12 transition-age youth leads the MVK program, providing mentoring to younger children. ACHIEVING LIFE-PLAN GOALS 90% of transition-age youth (TAY) developed a life plan, while 60% saw their scores improve by more than 3 points (on a 1-10 scale). The areas in which TAY most requested support were education, work/employment and relationships. POSITIVE SOCIAL EMOTIONAL GROWTH Last year, 82% of our teens exhibiting positive social emotional growth. Our assessment scale was developed based on observations of teens and the words that they defined themselves with in a shared group experience. YOUTH ADVOCACY AND MENTORING In the last year, a core group of 18 foster youth and 14 foster youth alumni convened formally on two occasions. The purpose each time was to review research goals and discuss ways to engage foster youth and alumni as respondents. The first convening involved older youth training younger youth in the research and advocacy process. The second convening was more of a roundtable to discuss key assets and skills that youth found to be common among their peers. Beyond the group mentoring and youth development opportunities for our teens and young adults, we have also engaged the younger members in our community. In the past year, 12 youth ages 8 - 13 years old participated in group mentoring outings on two different occasions. One outing was just for girls, while the other was a mixed gender event. By bringing multiple youth and volunteers together outside of Peace4Kids traditional site programming space, we have created an extension of our program that deepens our impact. Youth have self-reported that these types of outings help them to feel as though Peace4Kids really "cares" and is truly "interested" in their lives.
