“Cooperative Co-Parenting is a high conflict co-parenting program that was developed by the Founder of KTSD. It was originally taught under the name Parents Turn until our Founder sold the program to a community therapist who taught it under the name Cooperative Parenting San Diego. The therapist sold the program back to Kids Turn San Diego and we began teaching it in February 2022 under the name Cooperative Co-Parenting.”
“Our Family Workshop is a court approved co-parenting program for the whole family. Children learn how to share their thoughts and feelings about their family situations, that they are not alone and that their parents divorce is not their fault, thus freeing them up from self-blame. Parents gain insight into their words, actions and behaviors and learn how to accept the thoughts and feelings of their children without judging, minimizing or invalidating them. This program continues to be offered virtually. A teen who graduated from the program proudly read his graduation poster, I feel less stressed when I can communicate my feelings better with my parents. I learned in Kids Turn San Deigo that it is good to communicate your feelings, even if it is hard for others to hear. Whether in-person or virtual, Kids Turn San Diego continues to change lives by empowering children and healing families. Continue the Conversation Classes are offered as an advanced 2-hour refresher class for Family Workshop parent graduates and their new partners, Classes were offered virtually throughout the year.”

Parents also learn that through loss, anger and pain, positive changes are possible, no matter how desperate they may feel. This program does not include co-parents or children.”
“In our Counseling Program, we are providing a safe place for children ages 5-17 to talk about their family situation and to learn new coping and communication skills, realize that their family situation of separation is not their fault and find new ways to express their feelings. We are helping children focus in school, engage in appropriate social interactions with others and are providing tools that promote resiliency and increase self-esteem. Isabella participated in 10 counseling sessions. At the beginning of services, Isabella was carrying the weight of making adult choices, like whether to do school online or in-person and felt responsible for making her parents feel certain ways. At the end of counseling, she knows that decisions like where she goes to school are not hers to make, and she also learned that using I Feel Statements is a way for her to share her wants and needs with her parents so they can make the best decisions. She also understands that she can only share her thoughts and feelings, but she cannot make anyone do anything or change. At the end of counseling, Isabella told her counselor that she is no longer stressed because she learned that a nine-year-old kid gets to be a kid and that it is okay for her to let her parents handle their own feelings and emotions. Isabella is no longer afraid to let her parents down and has stopped internalizing the feelings of her parents as her own feelings. Counseling ended the week after Isabella was in the school play. She was so proud of herself and thanked her counselor for helping her feel better about herself and her family.”

Continue the Conversation Classes are offered as an advanced 2-hour refresher class for Family Workshop parent graduates and their new partners, Classes were offered virtually throughout the year. |

We are helping children focus in school, engage in appropriate social interactions with others and are providing tools that promote resiliency and increase self-esteem. Isabella participated in 10 counseling sessions. At the beginning of services, Isabella was carrying the weight of making adult choices, like whether to do school online or in-person and felt responsible for making her parents feel certain ways. At the end of counseling, she knows that decisions like where she goes to school are not hers to make, and she also learned that using I Feel Statements is a way for her to share her wants and needs with her parents so they can make the best decisions. She also understands that she can only share her thoughts and feelings, but she cannot make anyone do anything or change. At the end of counseling, Isabella told her counselor that she is no longer stressed because she learned that a nine-year-old kid gets to be a kid and that it is okay for her to let her parents handle their own feelings and emotions. Isabella is no longer afraid to let her parents down and has stopped internalizing the feelings of her parents as her own feelings. Counseling ended the week after Isabella was in the school play. She was so proud of herself and thanked her counselor for helping her feel better about herself and her family. |
