| OUR PROGRAMS BUILD THE CAPACITY OF THE COMMUNITIES MOST AFFECTED BY HIV TO BE EFFECTIVE AND INVOLVED ADVOCATES FOR CHANGE. THROUGH COMMUNITY EDUCATION AND OUTREACH EVENTS TARGETING PEOPLE LIVING WITH HIV AND THOSE AT DISPROPORTIONATE RISK FOR HIV, INCLUDING GAY AND BISEXUAL MEN, YOUTH, AND AFRICAN AMERICANS, WE'VE BUILT A STATEWIDE NETWORK WITH NEARLY 10,000 ACTIVE ACTION TEAM MEMBERS WHO HAVE ADVOCATED FOR RESPONSIBLE HIV POLICIES OVER THE LAST 3 1/2 YEARS. OUR ACTION TEAM MOBILIZES THOUSANDS OF NORTH CAROLINIANS TO SPEAK OUT ABOUT HIV. MEMBERS FLOODED INBOXES IN RALEIGH WITH MORE THAN 11,000 LETTERS TO STATE ELECTED OFFICIALS LAST YEAR, ON A BROAD RANGE OF TOPICS THAT INCLUDE AIDS DRUG PROGRAM FUNDING, MEDICAID EXPANSION, YOUTH ACCESS TO HIV TESTING AND TREATMENT, AND VOTING RIGHTS. MORE THAN 1,900 FACEBOOK FANS AND 540 TWITTER FOLLOWERS PARTICIPATED IN EDUCATIONAL, ANTI-STIGMA, AND ADVOCACY CAMPAIGNS BY ENGAGING WITH POSTS AND SHARING CONTENT WITH TENS OF THOUSANDS OF THEIR FRIENDS. IN RESPONSE TO NCAAN'S ADVOCACY, THE NC AIDS DRUG ASSISTANCE PROGRAM ELIMINATED ITS WAITING LIST AND RESTORED THE FULL FORMULARY OF COVERED MEDICATIONS. NC LEGISLATORS HAVE PLEDGED TO PROTECT THESE ACHIEVEMENTS IN SPITE OF BUDGET CUTS, PROMISING NO FUTURE WAIT LISTS OR FORMULARY REDUCTIONS. IN ADDITION, NCAAN'S SIGNIFICANT PARTICIPATION IN A COALITION EFFORT TO DEFEAT A BILL RESTRICTING YOUNG PEOPLE'S ACCESS TO HIV TREATMENT AND TESTING CONTRIBUTED TO THE BILL'S BEING DROPPED BEFORE IT EVER CAME TO THE FLOOR FOR A VOTE. ADVOCATES CONTRIBUTED TO MEDIA OUTREACH EFFORTS AS WELL, RESULTING IN NEWS STORIES IN OUTLETS INCLUDING THE WINSTON-SALEM JOURNAL AND FOX 8. OUR VOLUNTEER TEAM OF 1,500 PEOPLE POWERS OUR OUTREACH AND ADVOCACY WORK, HELPING US TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC AND MOBILIZE OUR MEMBERSHIP TO PROMOTE RESPONSIBLE HIV POLICIES AND CHALLENGE HIV-RELATED STIGMA. VOLUNTEERS ACROSS THE STATE GAVE MORE THAN 1,000 HOURS OF THEIR TIME LAST YEAR TO OUTREACH, PHONE BANKING, AND DATA ENTRY TO KEEP OUR NETWORK OF ACTIVISTS GROWING AND CONNECTED. ELEVEN MEMBERS STEPPED UP TO BE NEW GRASSROOTS LEADERS, WHO LEAD VOLUNTEER EVENTS IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. NCAAN SUPPORTS THE DESIRE OF PEOPLE LIVING WITH AND AT RISK FOR HIV/AIDS TO BECOME MORE EFFECTIVE ADVOCATES THROUGH OUR ADVOCACY TRAINING AND MENTORING PROGRAMS. OUR WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT TEAM PROJECT AND SPEAKING POSITIVELY PROGARM PROVIDE INTENSIVE TRAINING, MENTORING, AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT TO ADVOCATES WHO ARE LIVING WITH OR AFFECTED BY HIV. | - | $126,123 |

“The north carolina aids action network is a statewide advocacy organization fighting for the rights of people living with hiv/aids, their loved ones, and those at risk of aquiring hiv/aids in north carolina.”
“Our programs build the capacity of the communities most affected by hiv to be effective and involved advocates for change. Our women's empowerment team project and speaking positively progarm provide intensive training, mentoring, and leadership development to advocates who are living with or affected by hiv.”

| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 4 | THE NORTH CAROLINA AIDS ACTION NETWORK IS A STATEWIDE ADVOCACY ORGANIZATION FIGHTING FOR THE RIGHTS OF PEOPLE LIVING WITH HIV/AIDS, THEIR LOVED ONES, AND THOSE AT RISK OF AQUIRING HIV/AIDS IN NORTH CAROLINA. |
| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 5 | OUR PROGRAMS BUILD THE CAPACITY OF THE COMMUNITIES MOST AFFECTED BY HIV TO BE EFFECTIVE AND INVOLVED ADVOCATES FOR CHANGE. |
