Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 6

CNTR is a coalition of member organizations, comprised of three tiers of membership. The core member organizations pay $35,000/year in dues, hold seats on the Board of Directors, and have voting authority.

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 7A

The core member organizations of the coalition--The American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, American Burn Association, Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, and American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma--appoint two representatives each to serve on the CNTR Board of Directors.

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 8B

There are no committees that hold authority to act on behalf of the governing body.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The controller prepares the 990 for review by the executive director. Once the review is completed, the Board receives a copy of the 990 via email prior to submission.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

During the first quarter of each year, the Executive Director is required to review the conflict of interest policy and complete a conflict of interest statement. All other officers, directors, and board members are required to orally disclose potential conflicts of interest.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

Salary surveys for national nonprofit organizations are consulted, as well as market conditions, when determining compensation rates for CNTR employees. Years of service and performance are also taken into consideration.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

CNTR has a profile on Guidestar (Candid) and maintains Platinum level transparency. We also provide documents upon request.

Form 990, Part VIII, Line 1E

Included in Government Grants is $117,186 in refundable payroll tax credits under the CARES Act (Employee Retention Credit). This amount is reported on Part VIII, Line 1e and is excluded from unrelated business income under IRC §512(b)(1).

IRS990/Desc0National Trauma Research Repository (NTRR) - The purposes of this project are to prepare to fully integrate legacy data from the National Trauma Research Repository (NTRR) into the FITBIR IS, clean and harmonize studies against established and new trauma common data elements (CDEs), integrate legacy data of high quality that will support secondary analysis, and establish a systems process for new submission and use of legacy data. In 2024, CNTR researched and analyzed data elements within four environments of care, and created and ran concurrent Delphi surveys during which groups of subject matter experts arrived at consensus on which common data elements to include in the NTRR. CNTR worked with NIH-CIT to update website text and functionality and go live mid-year. We also finalized policies and procedures for submission of and access to data, and communicated with investigators to facilitate upload of legacy data into the system.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0PCORI VTE- The primary objective of the project is to help nurses and patients make informed decisions regarding VTE prevention and reduce the occurrence of blood clots in injured patients by 1) implementing a validated nurse education module, and patient-centered education tool at 9 trauma centers, 2) examining data on missed and refused doses of VTE prophylaxis and study the intervention's impact on VTE outcomes in trauma patients at high-risk for VTE events, 3) conducting a qualitative study to tailor the intervention to the different health care settings and computer systems so that it can be implemented nationally, and 4) conducting a Cost of Implementation analysis with input from all nine sites to inform the business case for adopting the intervention at trauma centers across the US by quantifying the implementation costs including staffing efforts (nurse training, bedside patient education interventions) and electronic health record (EHR) configuration in two major platforms (Epic and Cerner). Following training of more than 1,000 nurses and nurse peer coaching, a real-time missed dose alert was put into place at all sites, and the patient education program was activated. Nine sites collected trauma registry and missed dose data for trauma admissions from January 1, 2019-December 31, 2023. A CNTR webpage was continuously utilized as a repository for all study educational materials. Manuscripts were produced and submitted for publication.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0PROPOLIS - The PROPOLIS (Plasma Resuscitation without Lung Injury) study examines the use of INTERCEPT-treated pathogen-reduced plasma (IPRP) in the resuscitation of burned patients. IPRP is an FDA-approved blood component that has undergone treatment to reduce the risk of transfusion-transmitted infection. This is a three-year study, funded by the Defense Medical Research and Development Program. As the coordinating center for the multi-institutional study, CNTR is responsible for end-to-end study management across five clinical sites and two laboratories, involving all policy and procedure, training, and human subject protection activities. Following a protocol amendment to extend the enrollment window to 18 hours, CNTR activated study close-out due to low patient enrollment.
