Mission

EPIC shall promote the social health of the community by involving citizens in its activities and shall reach out to all segments of the community including traditionally under-represented groups. EPIC will promote the economic health of the community by fostering employment and business opportunities that meet the needs of the community. EPIC will act in the best interests of its community and represent those interests to other organizations and public bodies. This includes recommending action to governmental bodies and responding to proposals for residential and commercial development or livability in the East Phillips Area. EPIC will work to create a safe community that contains open communication between neighbors: b

NEIGHBORHOOD REVITALIZATION: 2018 began with implementing a $300,019 state grant from Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED). EPIC was chosen as fiscal agent to create a multicultural collaborative to develop an Indoor Urban Farm fostering entry-level jobs from a nonpolluting industry and responding to an area considered a food desert. Native American, Latino, Somali and Anglo organizations are working together at our extraordinary goal.$128,315$152,871
COMMUNITY ORGANIZING AND OUTREACH: The DEED grant effort has enhanced all of our previous organizing and outreach work. Many multi-ethnic meetings, some over 300 people, surveying, door-knocking, sending spokes-persons, often youth, to City Hall, making friends made across ethnic lines, new gardens started, have helped us all learn how much more effective we are working together as we continue to work for change.$20,453$19,286
COMMUNITY GARDEN: The EPIC-owned gardens three vacant city lots host 32 garden plots, self-supporting except for coverage by EPIC's insurance. The gardeners are from Latino, Anglo, Nepali, other refugees, the Native Americans whose daycare gardens and our local parks youth group, a positive connecting point for all these various groups.$689-
