“The form 990 is presented to the finance committee for their review and input. They have a date by which they need to provide comments or ask questions. Any questions are resolved. The form 990 is then posted on the board extranet (a web-based portal that disseminates information to the board members) for the board to review. The board is notified that the form 990 is on the board extranet, and the board members are given until before the final due date to provide comments and ask questions.”

“The organization sends out a board questionnaire to the board members. This questionnaire is review by the president of the organization and if there is a potential conflict the president lets the chairs of the board know. If a conflict if determined to be present the individual with the conflict is excused from voting on that topic.”

“During 2013, a consultant was hired to perform a study of all levels of salaries. The study was conducted through surveys with other similarly-sized convention and visitors bureaus (cvbs) in addition to other nonprofit organizations in the midwest. Based on the results of the study, salary ranges were established for all job descriptions. The ceo's salary, in particular, was compared to other cvbs of similar size, as well as other nonprofit organizations. An independent board executive committee reviewed the results of the study and approved a new salary for the ceo, which was documented in the meeting minutes. On an annual basis, this same consultant conducts salary surveys (for all levels of staff) with similar cvbs. By participating in this survey, the greater columbus convention and visitors bureau (gccvb) receives a report which shows the salaries of gccvb employees as compared to those of similar cvbs. Gccvb uses this to gauge its employees' salaries as compared to market. Adjustments, if warranted, are made to salaries.”
