To generate this power, shadowbox live's 40-plus member ensemble is in a state of constant creation, utilizing modern music and technical innovations to shift genres and meld performing art forms in an average of 10 original productions across 200 performances every year. This aesthetic has helped shadowbox live garner significant critical acclaim, deepen its community impact, and develop innovative educational programs and corporate partnerships. An "ohio original" founded in columbus, shadowbox live is one of the city's premiere destinations, and is committed to artistic and civic collaborations that fuel its dynamic, multi-faceted evolution.”
“Artistic: shadowbox live opened their 2024 season with a new comedy and music production "pillow talk: the greatest hits" shortly followed by a revival of their 2019 production "the dream" - celebrating the champions and victories of the modern civil rights era through a moving anthology of stories, music, and dance. In the spring, they premiered a new sketch comedy and music production "behind closed doors," followed by "evolutionaries: the stories of david bowie and prince" - a tribute to the music and influence of two iconic artists and the revolutions they led across music, fashion, and pop culture. In the early fall, they premiered their most artistically aggressive show to date, "sleepy hollow: an american ghost story." this adaptation of washington irving's classic 1820 short story as retold with the power of live theater, music, and dance. For their annual fundraiser in october, they presented a restrospective of their artistic accomplishments and community contributions over the past year. For the holidays, they presented their 29 year old seasonal annual revue, "holiday hoopla, and the fourth run of their heart-warming original holiday show, not so silent night." education: shadowbox live's education department - lauded for its immersive arts education programs was able to continue its growth. Shadowbox live's sbx performance academy saw success with its two flagship programs studio 8 (formerly stem rocks the box) and the arts immersion program. In february, 27 students from 18 central ohio high schools participated in studio 8, an 8-day after-school program that takes high school students through the audition, rehearsal, production, and performance of a comedy-and-music production for a live audience. Many of those students returned in the summer to join a cohort of 16 for the arts immersion program, a 10-day summer educational intensive focusing on the life of a working artist. Designed to teach resilience, perseverance, mastery of fears, and the exchange of critical and constructive feedback, the program culminates in the production and performance of a full-length comedy and music production. Shadowbox live's education programs have proven to be a workforce development opportunity. Twenty-five percent of the artistic staff are alumni of the sbx performance academy. The artistic american sign language course is in collaboration with columbus state community college. Through the execution of stage craft and character development, students are challenged to evolve from interpreter to performer and deepen the connection between art and audience. This years class performed/interpreted for three sold out holiday performances. The student mentorship program was implemented to allow recent emerging artists to serve as peer leaders for sbx academy students and assistants to teaching artists. Community: due to its overwhelming success, shadowbox live continued to meet the need for the return of live performance for its community with its uplifting original holiday musical not so silent night and its accompanying community program "host the holidays." the program partnered with area social service organizations to provide families in need with an affordable holiday experience with families receiving complimentary admission, food, and beverages. The program served 26 families. Additionally, shadowbox live continued offering student matinee performances and served 600 students for their production of "the dream: and 350 students for their production of "sleepy hollow." both matinees had accompanying study guides and a talkback with the artists afterwards. They had 9 students participate in the emerging artists program where select students who have successfully completed sbx academy programs are invited to perform as ensemble performers in three professional shadowbox live productions. Shadowbox live hosted adults with developmental disabilities at sensory friendly open rehearsals that provided accessible theater experiences”

Generally accepted accounting principles required the organization to evaluate the level of uncertainty related to whether tax positions taken will be sustained upon examination. Any positions taken that do not meet the more-likely-than-not threshold must be quantified and recorded as a liability for unrecognized tax benefits in the accompanying statements of financial position along with interest and penalties that would be payable to the taxing authorities upon examination. Management believes that none of the tax positions taken would materially impact the financial statements, and no such liabilities have been recorded.”
