Financial Statement Notes

Schedule D, Page 3, Part X

The association is exempt from federal income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code (the code). The association pays taxes on unrelated business income as defined by the code. The association has also been classified as an entity that is not a private foundation within the meaning of section 509(a) of the code, and therefore qualifies for deductible contributions as provided in section 170(b)(1)(a)(vi). For the years ended june 30,2015 and 2014, income tax expense of 6,544 and 13,435, respectively, is included in operating expenses on the statement of activities. The association paid taxes of approximately 9,000 and 11,000 during the years ended june 30, 2015 and 2014, respectively, related to unrelated business income. The association evaluates its uncertain tax positions as to whether it is more likely than not a tax position could be sustained in the event of an audit by the applicable taxing authority. Accordingly, a loss contingency is recognized when it is probable that a liability has been incurred as of the date of the financial statements, and the amount of the loss can be reasonably estimated. The amount recognized is subject to estimate and management judgment with respect to the likely outcome of each uncertain tax position. The amount that is ultimately sustained for an individual uncertain tax position or for all uncertain tax positions in the aggregate could differ from the amount recognized. The association's open tax years include 2012, 2013, and 2014. No uncertain tax positions were identified during fiscal years 2015 and 2014 that do not meet the more likely than not threshold.
