“2025 promises to be an exciting year at roy g biv. We will continue to feature emerging artists in our roy presents monthly exhibitions during the franklinton friday festivities on the 2nd friday of each month. This year, we will showcase 34 artists in this format. We are grateful to share the work of these amazing artists with the community of franklinton, columbus, and beyond. We are also proud to host roy shares, an opportunity for artists not selected for the roy presents exhibitions to showcase their work on a smaller scale but still within our gallery walls. This provides space for artists who might not otherwise have access to gallery space and enriches our gallery with additional artworks and the chance to meet more artists. Rgb is excited to continue sharing expanded programming this year. We will continue with our roy in dialogue invitational exhibition, this year held in may. We will be featuring the artwork of jesse ly, a talented, multi- media artist. This exhibition will invite the community to participate in a variety of conversations and programming centered around the theme of 'friendship.' in addition to roy in dialogue, we are diving into two experimental projects involving text and publishing. First, we will install roy's 1st reading room. Artist josiah jamison will install the books and texts that inspired their mfa thesis work in the gallery to inspire and inform viewers about the nature of critical and theoretical themes that reside within their work. Lastly, roy alumni julie rae powers will host a popup version of their publishing house soft lightning studio, an independent publisher of contemporary art and literature located in columbus, ohio, here in the gallery. We are excited for these new and vibrant opportunities and we are confident they will further engage our audience. Artist impact quotes: "it was a rich and valuable experience. It gave me the opportunity to learn about and collaborate with artists who i had not known previously. I was also given the space to share my work with a community other than my own. Since showing the roy i have had the privilege to be continually professionally active by showing my work in a variety of local, national, and international venues and engaging with the broader arts community through interviews and curatorial activities." ~arron foster. "showing at roy was really important to my career. It was my first exhibition post mfa thesis and allowed me to gain the experience of producing an exhibition as a curator.post exhibition, i had a busy fall 2024. In addition, i have been a lecturer at osu, otterbein and will be a visiting professor at denison university for fall 2025/spring 2026." ~marcus morris. "the exposure and opportunity to exhibit with a non-profit gallery allowed me to demonstrate to other galleries, granting organizations, my own employer, as well as curators that my work is relevant and meaningful. This credibility is often impossible to get by any other means as commercial galleries are solely interested in turnover and are resistant to taking risks on emerging artists." ~artist wishes to remain anonymous.”

A RESOURCE FOR EMERGING ARTISTS IN COLUMBUS SINCE 1989, ROY IS KNOWN FOR SHOWCASING INNOVATIVE CONTEMPORARY ART BY ARTISTS, BOTH LOCAL AND GLOBAL. AS A NONPROFIT ART GALLERY, ROY IMPACTS THE COMMUNITY BY SUPPORTING NEIGHBORHOOD ACTIVITIES AND ARTS GROUPS, HOSTING OUTSIDE ORGANIZATIONS IN ITS GALLERY SPACE AND COLLABORATING WITH OTHER ARTS INSTITUTIONS ON EVENTS AND PROGRAMMING. |

I CURATED AN EXHIBITION OF IMAGE BASED ART AT BEELER FOR FOTOFOCUS BIENNALE AND WAS A FELLOW AT THE GUND AT KENYON COLLEGE, WHERE I PRODUCED AN INSTALLATION BASED ON BLACK HISTORY IN KNOX COUNTY. IN 2025, I WAS A FINALIST AND WINNER OF BEST SERIES AT THE APPALACHIAN MOUNTAIN PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION AND WILL SHOW AN INSTALLATION AT BEELER GALLERY IN FALL 2025. THIS CREDIBILITY IS OFTEN IMPOSSIBLE TO GET BY ANY OTHER MEANS AS COMMERCIAL GALLERIES ARE SOLELY INTERESTED IN TURNOVER AND ARE RESISTANT TO TAKING RISKS ON EMERGING ARTISTS." ~ARTIST WISHES TO REMAIN ANONYMOUS. |
