Mission

The ohio music education association espouses a philosophy of music education that values artistic/musical experiences for every citizen.

The "mutual helpfulness and promotion of all phases of music education in all schools and communities by all legitimate and effective means". The organization carries out these objectives through a broad program of education and enrichment. The programs are both student oriented and teacher oriented.

Governance Explanations

Omea is an incorporated ohio non-profit organization. It is a membership organization. Its members' responsibilities include electing the members of the governing body and, when necessary, approving significant decisions of the governing body. These decisions would relate to any amendments to the organizational or governing documents of the organization.

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 7A

Members of the governing body are nominated and elected by the membership of omea. The members of the governing body are elected to fixed terms. If a vacancy arises during the term, the governing body is authorized to appoint a replacement for the remainder of the term. Membership in omea is achieved by payment of annual dues. Aside from electing members to the governing body, members have the right to approve significant decisions of the governing body such as decisions that relate to organizational or governing documents.

The membership of the organization are charged with approving significant decisions made by the governing body, such as an amendment to the organizational or governing documents of the organization.

A copy of the form 990 is provided electronically to each voting member of the governing body prior to its filing with the irs. Further, a formal review of the form 990 is conducted by the organization's executive director prior to its filing.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

All members of the governing body and the organization's key employees are covered by the conflict of interest policy. Annually, these individuals are required to make a disclosure of any interests that may arise to a conflict. Further, on a quarterly basis, a disclosure form is presented to the covered individuals soliciting information that may have arisen since the annual disclosure that could create a conflict of interest. The forms are collected by the executive director who presents the results to the governing body for review. If any new situations exist, further action is taken in accordance with the policies to appropriately identify a conflict of interest. Formal declaration of a conflict is then made by the board which is then charged with regularly reviewing the actual conflicts.
