At community kitchen our mission is to work, alone and in collaboration with others, to eliminate hunger in monroe county and surrounding areas through direct service, education and advocacy. Our philosophy states that community kitchen provides free nutritious meals, nutrition education, referrals to other agencies, and a clean, comfortable social environment for patrons, staff and volunteers. Through daily operations and educational outreach, community kitchen works to educate the public about the extent of hunger in monroe county, explain probable causes of hunger, and provide ways to respond to hunger needs.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The organization is exempt from federal income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. Accordingly, the financial statements do not provide for income taxes. The organization has implemented the accounting guidance for uncertainty in income taxes. Under that guidance, tax positions initially need to be recognized in the financial statements when it is more-likely-than-not the position will be sustained upon examination by the tax authorities. As of december 31, 2024, the organization had no uncertain tax positions that qualify for either recognition or disclosure in the financial statements. The organization files federal and indiana income tax returns. Management believes the organization's tax-exempt status would be upheld upon examination.
