“The 990 return is prepared by the council's independent auditor who sends an electronic copy to the fiscal officer. The fiscal officer and the executive director review the 990 return and forwards a complete electronic copy to all members of the governing body.”
“The council's conflict of interest policy is included in its bylaws. All employees and board members receive orientation to the policies. When a potential conflict arises (vote, grant, award, etc.), employees and board members are required to disclose the conflict and abstain from action. All abstentions are documented in the minutes of the council.”
“The federation of state humanities councils publishes a reference document annually that contains a salary survey of national averages for state humanities council positions. Kentucky humanities council is within range of the median salary for listed positions. The executive committee determines compensation for the executive director and the executive director authorizes salary increases for other employees based on current budget constraints.”
“The council's governing documents, conflict of interest policy, and financial statements are available to the public upon request. The council received no requests for documents from the public during the current year. An annual "report to the people" with financial information and project activities are distributed within the council's spring magazine to individuals on the council's mailing list and is available online at kyhumanities.org.”
“Other program services 4: prime time family reading time: this ongoing program addresses inter-generational illiteracy and targets at-risk children and their parents. Each program lasts 6 weeks and uses award-winning humanities based children?s books to help families become life-long readers and learn to talk about life-changing issues. During the fiscal year, we served over 2,000 at risk children and their parents.”
“The council holds investments for endowment purposes to enable it to become self-sustaining.”
“The council has no uncertain tax positions that qualify for disclosure in the financial statements, therefore, no liability has been recorded. Tax years still open under federal and state statute of limitations remain subject to review and change.”

SPECIAL EVENTS INCLUDED KENTUCKY READS: "DEAR ANN" PUBLIC DISCUSSIONS, YOUTH INNOVATION IN RURAL AMERICA MEDIA PROGRAMS, SMITHSONIAN VOICES AND VOTES TRAVELING EXHIBITION, AND MINI-GRANTS TO FUND GRASSROOTS PROGRAMS. THE COUNCIL CONTINUED WITH THE MEDIA PROGRAM "THINK HUMANITIES", PRODUCING APPROX. 50 PODCASTS AND 1,000 THINK HISTORY. THROUGH SPECIAL PROGRAMMING WE REACHED OVER 850,000 PEOPLE. |
