Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line Policies

The 990 is prepared by the Finance Manager from the financial statements prepared by the outside, independent CPA firm. It is reviewed by the Executive Director, then scanned copy of the 990 and required schedules is emailed to all Board Members, return receipt requested. The Finance Manager or Administrative Assistants track receipt and review by each Board Member. A Deadline for review is given in order to ensure everyone responds in a timely manner.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line Policies

The conflict of interest policy requires Board Members to complete annual disclosures of companies they own or are invested in. The Administrative Assisstant tracks these forms and reviews any new holdings to notify management and Board officers of new holdings to ensure compliance with purchase policies.

The Executive Committee of the Board does an annual review of the Executive Directors performance and thhe salary/benefit package.

All financial documents 990, annual audit, interium reports, governing documents, conflict of interest policy and other policies or procedures are available upon request from the main office. A small fee may be charged to cover the cost of copying if a paper copy of great length is requested.

Parenting classes were provided, with an average of 90 of those parents demonstrating an increase in knowledge of parenting skills. Emergency assistance was provided to over 2000 individuals, allowing them to keep their utilities connected or helping with their rent to prevent eviction. Life skills and employment development classess were offered to over 100 individuals. Nutrition classes and exercise programs were attended by over 100 individuals to promote a healther lifestyle amoung the appalachian community.

Americorps participants provided tutoring and educational enhancement activities in low income neighborhoods. 75 of GED program participants reached high school functioning levels in both reading and math.

It is reviewed by the Executive Director, then scanned copy of the 990 and required schedules is emailed to all Board Members, return receipt requested. The Finance Manager or Administrative Assistants track receipt and review by each Board Member. A Deadline for review is given in order to ensure everyone responds in a timely manner.
