Activity 2

CABVI operates multiple employment programs for individuals who are legally blind. Employees in CABVI employment programs earn competitive wages and benefits, contributing to their financial independence and self-sufficiency. The CABVI Industries Program is a nationally recognized operation that is one of the largest manufacturing suppliers of tape products to the United States military. The Industries Program, operated through the Ability One Program under the Javits-Wagner-O'Day Act, provides employment to people who are blind or visually impaired. In 2011, CABVI provided 68,982 hours of work to Industries Program employees with vision loss, employing a total of 56 legally blind individuals agency-wide. Products include: kitchen gadgets, rolled paper and tape products, and in-flight dining packets. Thirty varieties of kitchen gadgets are sold at over 100 military commissaries worldwide. In order to expand the types of employment opportunities available to people who are blind, CABVI started a contact center training program in 2009 to train people to transition to service positions and eventual community employment. In 2011, under the Ability One Program (JWOD Act), CABVI started a Contract Management Support (CMS) unit at the Defense Logistics Agency in Columbus, Ohio. The CMS program employs four individuals, three of whom are blind, in professional-level service positions.

Activity 3

The CABVI Base Supply Center (BSC) is operated under the Authority of the Javits-Wagner-O'Day Act (JWOD) and the AbilityOne Program of the U.S. Air Force. The BSC sells products, which are manufactured by more than 100 agencies nationally who provide manufacturing jobs for individuals who are blind or severely disabled. The products sold are included on the Federal Procurement List and their use by Federal employees provides and sustains employment of people who have disabilities as the enactment of the AbilityOne Program (JWOD Act) intended. In 2011, 30% of products sold were manufactured by AbilityOne agencies.
