“Our three pillars are virtue, mentoring and ceremony. Our motto is virtue = strength sportsleader is a return to the root of sports - shifting the focus back to growth, character development, and virtue formation. Coaches serve as positive role models - developing athletes into leaders during sports and ingraining good habits into athletes - both on and off the field. Sportsleader is designed to be a supplement to regular sports practices and adds only minutes to the weekly schedule. Coaches utilize person-to-person mentoring sessions to meet individually with each athlete. When a coach reinforces the ideas stressed to his athletes individually through sportsleader person-to-person mentoring sessions, the athlete becomes accountable and real change happens. The sportsleader program is centered on virtue which consists of knowledge, values, living, and transmitting. Know: the program begins by using sportsleader resources to educate the coach on virtue formation. The coach then periodically gives short talks to his/her team on these same topics. Value: the athletes come to value the sportsleader program through the personal example of the coach, person-to-person mentoring sessions and the sense of team that is created over the course of the sports season. The individual and team successes that take place throughout the season positively reinforce the value of the sportsleader message. Live: the person-to-person mentoring sessions result in athletes making concrete virtue resolutions to live on the field, at school, and at home. Transmit: as athletes fulfill their virtue resolutions, those virtues develop into habits and they become living examples to their peers. The athletes develop the strength of will to do the right thing no matter what the circumstance and become leaders in every area of their life.”
