Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The mission of autistic women & nonbinary network (awn) is to provide community, support & resources for autistic women, girls, nonbinary people, and all others of marginalized genders. In fulfillment of our mission, awn self-published 2 anthologies: all the weight of our dreams: on living racialized autism & what every autistic girl wishes her parents knew. The latter has been picked up by beacon publishing for republication in 2021. Awn hosts educational events, autism acceptance events, seminars and conferences with the focus on multiply marginalized disabled people, book readings and discussions centering on autism and disability, and social gathering meetups which provides community connection. Awn sponsors a fund which provides direct financial support to autistic people of color through micro-grants.

The mission of autistic women & nonbinary network (awn) is to provide community, support, and resources for autistic women, girls, transfeminine and transmasculine nonbinary people, trans people of all genders, two spirit people, and all other marginalized genders.

The eboard, which is comprised of three voting board members. The eboard has the power to make governing decisions on behalf of the entire board between meetings. All meeting are documented and submitted to the entire board at their next meeting.

The form 990 is prepared by an independent accounting firm with information provided by the organizations board. Prior to filing with the irs, the return is reviewd by the executive director as well as the secretary/treasurer who then send it to the entire board. Once the entire board of directors has reviewed the form, it is filed with the irs.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

Staff & board members complete a conflict of interest form. Awn reviews potential conflicts at the individual employee level through our board of directors, and this is initiated through our disclosure forms, but a final determination of whether a conflict exists is made by awn's compliance officer; however, depending on the seriousness of the conflict, the determination might be reviewed and decided upon by the full board. Consideration of all factors will be taken into account including the individual's relationships outside of awn, financial interests, and any potential impact on their decision-making oversight within awn, and in some instances awn may need to modify the individual's responsibilities or outsource an independent review. There are varying options that would take place for someone identified with having a conflict. The person may be required to recuse themselves from decision-making specifically related to their conflict, publicly disclose the conflict, or take other mitigating actions deemed appropriate by the compliance officer or determining entity. Conflict of interests forms are submitted by employees and the board, and the forms serve as the primary documentation. With awn being a remote work space, all records including discussions and decisions are e-filed and securely maintained regarding the conflict. If it is determined that a mitigation plan must be implemented then those details are included and provided to all relevant parties.

The process for determining compensation of top management officials, officers and key employees is performed by the board of directors. The board reviews average compensation of similar size organizations, performs annual performance evaluations and looks at the financial sustainability of the organization prior to hiring and determining raises. The results of the review are documented in the organization's meeting minutes. This process last occured in 2023.
