“SHAKING THROUGH”

“Shaking through is a documentary recording series that pairs 6 to 8 emerging musical groups per year with professional producers and engineers, each to produce one original song in two days. 42 videos were produced for shaking through over the last year, capturing the writing and production of 7 new, original songs by 7 artists or musical groups that consist of 45 individual musicians. All raw audio files from shaking through recordings were shared with weathervane's 1,790 members in 2015, each of whom could make their own remixes of the recordings, and engage in lively conversation about their experience with other members of the community on episode webpages. Shaking through shares remarkable new artists' work, it educates the public, and allows them a unique chance to be part of the creative process. Every episode of shaking through includes an artist video, with artist interviews that allow them to share their story and experiences in the studio. In addition, a production video includes interviews with the professional producers that recorded the song, giving insight into the recording process for that song.”

“The weathervane edu program”

“In 2015, weathervane introduced a program to provide the remarkable raw audio from shaking through, along with other educational materials to institutions that teach audio recording. The goal of the edu program is for weathervane to take an active voice in how the recording arts and sciences are taught in the modern day. In addition, we hope to reach potential future members for weathervane among populations of students and academic instructors. In 2015, there were 337 student and instructor members from the 8 colleges, high schools, and social services programs that participated in the weathervane edu program's first year.”

“RECORDING WORKSHOPS”

“Over the past two years, weathervane produced 10 recording workshops for philadelphia music fans, musicians, and home recording enthusiasts at miner street recordings, the studio where shaking through is produced. These workshops taught basic recording concepts and techniques, and gave hands-on studio experience for as many as 15 students per workshop, as well as thousands of viewers who attended online for free.”
